I'm glad I have a few minutes to catch up with everyone!

let's see, what's been going on? I had my labs done last week in preparation for my year check up next week. I'm curious to know if my levels are all good! My appt. is next Friday...

I've had this off/on issue with my right side/ back. It's pretty much been since surgery, but not an everyday issue. I had mentioned it to my surgeon when I'd see him, (Or the PA when I'd see her) They did a CT to check for hernia...all ok there.

I called in another time when it seemed to be worse, the nurse said it sounded a bit like kidney stones, so see my family Dr. I did that..they did an ultra sound and checked kidneys, liver, and pancreas. All looked well. She said let me know if you continue to have issues.... I thought I had it narrowed down to when I'd be "FULL" and hadn't had a bowel movement for a few days, it'd be at its worse. Then it would feel better after....so my family Dr. said they may want to look into seeing if there was scar tissue that had adhered to my intestines. Well, all last week I had issues "going." Finally went well on last Saturday and for the rest of the weekend, my back/side was in more pain than ever...got into the Dr. Tuesday AM. Saw someone I don't usually see, but turned out to be a good thing. He said I had a rib totally out of place. I had known that there was a rib that when I pressed on it, in back...it'd like "click", or move. Weird. This Dr. can do chiropractic adjustments, so he put it back in place, but said I'd probably need more adjustments.

I went to my regular chiro yesterday and it was still out, but not as bad as Tuesday. She worked on me for a good half hour. :( Both the Dr. and the Chiro said it most likely happened during my surgery! That would explain why I've had so much off/on pain since then on that one side!? And of course the reason it was worse when I was "Full" was because of the pressure it would put on that rib when my belly was full, LOL! I'm still pretty sore, and she said it'll probably give me issues for a while and come back out of place because it's been out for so long.

Goodness sakes! :P

Ooops didn't mean to hit POST yet...

School is still going well, I have A's in both classes. The nutrition class is pretty interesting. My teacher knows I've had the bypass surgery and said we talk about that at some point and asked if I'd like to share. I said, sure! She's already called me out a few times in regards to my high Protein diet. In general, the US eats excess Protein, which leads to weight gain if people aren't active enough, or don't burn off what they don't need. But obviously my case is different. She always adds, "and you're under a Dr.'s care with your high protein diet, correct?" Yeps!! :P

I think I had mentioned before my knees were giving me issues. I've only been back to my "intense" workout class once since then. I really think I'm not quite ready for that class, unfortunately :( When I dread going....it can't be a good thing.

All I've done is walking lately. Need to get in some weights or something! I might end up going back to my other gym I'd been going to. Frustrating because I really wanted to be able to handle that intense class. Ugh... we're supposed to go tomorrow morning, we'll see what happens. Maybe if I try it once more, I'll make my decision for sure.

Okay--so a couple of "skinny person" issues I've come across. It's SO weird to have "skinny person" issues!! (sorry if I've already whined about these, LOL)

Shaving my arm pits!? I don't know how to explain it, but there's like a deep concave area that I just can't get the razor into, LOL!!! :P

Bleacher sitting....OMG, that tush padding came in a bit handy evidently!!! My butt bones literally feel bruised the next day after sitting at my son's football games!

I am FREEZING all of the time!!!! I am seriously going to die of coldness this winter I think....I think I'll have to move to a warm, beach island, for sure. :P

I was thinking I had another one, but I can't remember right now, LOL.

Ok, I'd better go get some work done!

I need to figure out how to make a picture thingy that shows a "Before and After" picture all in one?!

Isn't it great that we can all assess where we were, where we are and where we are going with a much better lens!

Beni - your insights are always spot on.

Hey, how is everyone doing? It's our anniversary month!!!! I did my first 5k this weekend, and as I was jogging, I said to my sister in law, "a year ago today, I wouldn't be able to do even half of this without stopping and gasping for life". It was a wonderful feeling! I have been going thru some really emotional times lately, and old habits are creeping up :-( I broke up for good with the guy I was with for 3 yrs, and I've been seeing a guy for the last 2 months, who is amazing all around, cute as hell , and encourages me to make the healthier choices. But I'm starting to miss the ex. I think it's a comfortability thing, or maybe not, who knows. But I do know that going thru this and all the Halloween candy in front of me everywhere I go, and pumpkin spice this and that, it's not a good mix.

Luna, I can relate! A few bad habits have crept up on me. I think it's all the changes I've been going through. Carbs are an old friend.... So is wine. We have come so far, I really hate it when I slip! The good news about the job is I walk to and from work - which is over 4 miles total. But, I need to get healthy eating routines.

Luna- I have a question for you. Your new guy sounds GREAT the way you describe him. Do you feel you don't deserve him? Just do an ego check! See if that's why you miss the old guy who didn't treat you as well.

I am getting alot of attention. It is some what disturbing because I am not used to it. Just yesterday i went into the local library & was propositioned. The guy said you are so feminine i am hoping your not married so i can go home with you. Really! I told him well i am married see my ring. Geez Men dont care if your married. I have currently started counseling to learn how to not feel guilty for blossoming. My husband is attending with me because me living my new life has him scared to death. My husband & I this weekend in Albuquerque, NM at the Balloon festival. :) Anyone else running into these problems?

Absolutely running into these problems. The plumber was checking me out, imagine that. He was full on flirting too, OMG. I honestly did not know what to do. I regressed back to high school, the last time this was going on. My inner reaction was - you creep. But then, a part of me liked it. I am in no danger of going down that road but I could see how someone single could replace food with sex. It scares me a little because other women probably deal with this all their lives and have learned to cope. We on the other end are completely unprepared with the self confidence to handle it. When we were obese there was a little comfort in being invisible. That cloak is gone. Now we have to face the world in a new way. I don't think my husband knows how to handle it either. But then maybe he needs to because we were taken for granted for so long we became pieces of furniture. Like a comfortable recliner that is always there. We must take life in our own hands and carve a path in the full knowledge that we are "ALL THAT" and we deserve nothing but the best. As I put my foot forward everyday I want it to be to become better and make the world around me better. Nearly one year on, I am at a point were I think I can look towards being amazing become I am, I always was but I was lost in a sea of despair and self pity. I wouldn't even speak up because I felt I was the fat woman nobody cared about.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
