I'm not the exact date - scheduled for November 10th. I know what you mean about scared - very, very nervous about possible complications, or what if's. I keep reminding myself that many people have this surgery every day and that they've been doing this for a long time, that all will work out.

my date changed until 12/9. I am worried so much about the skin. Its the most vainest reason.

Phxmom, I don't think it's too unusual to be worried about the skin (excess skin). My closest friend had Gastric Bypass in July 2014 and "the skin" was what she talked about most leading up to the surgery. I think she's down about 60 lbs now. I went bra shopping with her and saw all there was to see. I gotta tell you, it really isn't that bad. Now i know she thinks it is but truly, if you think about it, we already have all that amount of skin. Right now it's filled in with weight / fat. As we change our habits, have the surgery, change our lives - the skin amount doesn't increase, it'll just be empty skin. Personally I'd rather have it empty and hanging then filled :-) There is the possibility of having surgery later to take care of skin...called body sculpting?? A lady at work will be having that soon, as she's 18 mos out and lost over 100 lbs. She claims the biggest way to get that surgery (have insurance cover) is to document on an ongoing basis the rashes you're getting, tell your doc (even primary care) at any and each appt that you're itchy, or you get occasional rashes. The documentation apparently aids in being able to proceed. You're a December date now - more time to prepare!

Hey ladies...

I'm having my bypass on Nov. 11. I'm in N.Carolina. I'm also worried about it all...... Skin for sure. I'm not a "spring chicken" anymore and I'm afraid I'll look like my 86yr.old mother when this is done. I've also heard that if your primary care doctor supports your claim of rashes and such that it may be covered.

Right now all I'm concerned with is getting through this next 2 weeks of liquid prep and then the actual surgery. After that I'm hoping that all the positive changes both physically and emotionally will out weight the negatives. At this stage of my life I want to be able to enjoy the things I used to love doing and can't do now. Retirement is supposed to be fun and a time to enjoy your spouse/partner now that the responsibilities of raising a family has passed. I don't want to have to spend that time sitting in front of the TV, probably getting heavier by the week because I can't do anything else.

My hat's off to those of you that are younger and are taking this step sooner rather than later. You have so much life ahead of you. You deserve to be healthy and able to live it to the fullest.!!

I'm all in for supporting each other through this journey. I'm going to follow this thread, but am open to IM too.

Deb

Yes, I'm having the bypass done. Today was my day 2 of the prep diet. Lot's of Protein and liquids. I spent most of my day in the bathroom. I actually have a little headache, but it should go away once I go to bed.

Dabliss - how are you doing now with the liquid diet? I'm on Day 6 and still hanging in there. Found that I DO NOT like the GNC powders or any powder I mix, I seem to be partial to the already mixed stuff like EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control. Good luck with it all, take care!

Hi. Doing fine on the liquid diet. This is my 5th day and I"ve lost 10 lbs. I'm actually allowed to have one light meal of protein(chicken, fish) and veggies while I'm on it.

I'm already stressing over how I'm going to get all the Protein and liquid in during the day when I can only manage 2 oz. at a time. I'm having a hard enough time now....it seems like I'm drinking something constantly, and I'm downing more than a small sip at a time. Hopefully I'll get a handle on it after my surgery.

hello everyone in the room, how are you all doing today??? I don't live in Phoenix, lol actually i live the whole way across the country (right outside washington, dc) Anyways, i would love to be a weight loss buddy with anyone who wants to chat. I really wish i would have done what you are all doing, and thats finding a weight loss buddy before u have surgery. I have a bunch of weight loss surgery buddies i have met off here and obesityhelp.com forums and it has made life so much better and easier. The only regret was i didn't find them until a few weeks after surgery. I can't tell you how much it helps to be able to talk with someone who has or is going through what you are going through. Its so nice to get advice on recipes, or exercise tips, or to just rant and rave on anything and everything. So if any of you have any questions, please dont hesitate to ask! I will give you some tips i wish people woulda told me. 1. Start practicing eating smaller portioned meals (low carb and high protein) NOW! And also make sure your drinking a MINIMUM of 64 ounces of Water a day! It makes it so much easier after surgery if your already used to doing these things. 2. Also most people have surgery and expect to see results within a week after surgery, you didn't put that weight on in a week, so it isn't going to come off in a week! Remember your gonna be healing for a few weeks after surgery so don't have high expectations to lose a bunch of weight right away, some people do, some people don't it all depends on the person. But if you take it 1 day at a time and work your new tool (Bypass) and work the program, trust me, THE WEIGHT WILL COME OFF! I cant express how much you are gonna be amazed on how better you feel, how much more energy you'll have. It will be the best decision you ever made, i would bet my life on that! And i saw you guys are worrying about the skin issues. Yes your gonna probably have some loose skin, thats a good thing though, means your losing the weight. Most time its not as bad as it seems. Its just were all self concious so it looks worse than it is to ourselves. But hey it can always be corrected either through hard work at the gym or sometimes the gym just ins't enough and you can have plastic surgery. And alot of times i am finding out is if its bad enough and causing health issues, your insurance will cover it (that is if it covers weight loss surgery, i have typically seen they cover this type of surgery as long as your doctor documents that its causing health issues). I actually have a friend on a different forum who got approved to have some type of plastic surgery done for excess skin because his doctor said he was getting rashes from the overlap of skin. But anyways, dont focus on that right now, focus on getting healthy and shedding that weight! You'll make it and do great. So if any of you care to chat, hit me up. My name is Andy by the way

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
