I'm a few weeks post op, enough that I'm eating soft food and feeling restriction. I feel like I'm overeating. I spend most of my time feeling stuffed. I am tracking my food and I'm lucky to break 600 calories. So clearly I'm not eating as much as I did pre-op. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

You are going to feel pretty full until all the swelling goes down. So like, three bites and you are good. And you will have more than that on your plate and totally think it can't possibly fill you up. But yeah, it will. Those first few weeks I wasn't even hungry. I had to force myself to eat.

I suggest only eating a bite or two. Even if you think it can't possibly fill you up. Then wait a few minutes and assess if you need more. If yes, have another bite, if no, refrigerate for later.

I am exactly the same way. However I have to put those couple bites in my mouth about every three hours. I am very careful NOT to ever take that bite that will make me sick. Lol I have never had the slides or thrown up. I cannot imagine. So sometimes I stop even if I think I will be full on the next bite. I can tolerate anything I have tried so far so that is a blessing.

I guess I'm afraid I'm already eating too much. For example, I had no problem eating a whole scrambled egg this morning. Everything I read says people can only eat a bite or two.

It also depends on how long it takes you to eat. Some people still eat fast, while others are eating slower. I really have to think about eating slow or I have a hard time.

I am thinking it's probably normal. You still have swelling going on in your stomach and it's going to take time. All of the sudden around 7 months I noticed a big change in restriction and now I have to be pretty careful about just eating to where I am satisfied and not over-eating. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
