Tummy tuck scars - can u share your pic?

Recommended Posts

I would love to get a Tummy Tuck once I'm at my goal weight, but I'll admit, the hip to hip scar freaks me out a bit. It reminds me of Frankenstein! 99.9% of people's TT surgery pics show their belly with the scar covered by a bikini. Anyone out there in BP land willing to share what their TT scar looks like after some time has passed? I'm wondering what the scar looks like once its had some time to fade.

Have you looked at realself.com? They have a ton of Tummy Tuck scar pics, and pictures for every other procedure as well. I am very happy with my scar. It runs from hip to hip, but I'm about 6 weeks out from surgery and it has already faded to pink. It isn't raised at all and while I was also concerned about the scar, I feel SO much better having had it done. It's hard to get an idea of how you will scar, since a lot of it has to do with genetics.

I am very happy I had my plastic procedures done. I look like a completely different person.

I am happy with my TT. My scar healed darker than anticipated, but I have no regrets. The scar is low enough that it would be indecent to wear anything that showed it - it keeps me from wearing a string bikini and that's about it. ...and frankly, I would feel silly in one anyway and would probably look ridiculous. Thanks for your responses, gals. I have looked on-line, but as I mentioned before, I either find pictures of fresh scars or they are covered up. I'm curious - how far out are you from your surgery? I have a very fine 6" scar from a previous surgery located where a c-section would be. It's over 23 years old at this point and you can't see it unless you really look for it. I wonder if TT scars always stay red looking or do they eventually fade?

OK - Just took some pictures for you - I had a Fleur De Lis abdominoplasty in April 2010... My scar stretched a bit (Keep that tape on for 3mths and this shouldn't happen to you) as in other Ops I kept the tape on for 10-12 weeks and I have no stretching and the scars are much finer and better - My Doc said to take it off after 6 weeks - Back then I didn't know all the tricks to a thin flat scar line.......

You need to make sure your Doc knows you want the hip to hip scar as low as possible (I know what you mean there I feel mine is higher than I would have liked) And the tape would go in a complete circle around you - Tightly! - The tightness will get that scar nice and flat, not so tight you cannot breathe or anything - LOL

I had part of my scar reopened in a future op - And I did the round the body tape tight thing and all bad one part of my scar there is better than it started out... I have very pale skin and the hip to hip scar shows far less than the top to bottom stretched scar does......

Good Luck! The new you is just round the corner!!!

9thNov2014-4_zps80567ce4.jpg I hope they don't come out too huge!

I don't think that there's anything special about a scar from abdominoplasty in the sense that if you are a bad scarer in general, your TT scar will be bad; if you don't scar badly, you probably will end up with a nice little white, faded line. I am a terrible scarer, but I knew that going in to the TT (which I had 8 years ago) and while I don't like the scaring, it's certainly better than a big jiggly tummy! I just think that ANY time you have a procedure like this, you have to be very honest with yourself and ask yourself if you're going to be okay with the scar or not. Also, it's not just the hip to hip scaring that is an issue, if you are having a full TT, you will lose your real belly button and the surgeon will fashion a new one for you. I think my surgeon did a very nice job and gave me a cute little belly button, but it ALSO has a scar, so you need think about that as well. As I said, I scar very badly, they are always raised and stay purple/'red forever. In addition, my hip to hip scar got very wide. You may not have the same experience, but go in with eyes open!

Here's my belly. Note the scaring on the fake belly button and how wide the incision scar is! Also note how raised and red my incision from my sleeve is just to the right of my belly button, it's over a year old.

You may view my Tummy Tuck scars at 3-mos and 6-mos post op in my flickr photo album. And you may view my LBL scars at various stages in another of my flickr albums. Now that I am a year out they are much lighter but I don't have any updated photos.

The back of my LBL scar is much thinner and lighter than the front of the LBL scar. My surgeon (Joseph Capella MD) told me that they will turn white eventually. We shall see; they have lightened a lot from what you will see in those photo albums.

I have scars on every part of my body from plastic surgery. Before I went through with it, I was so VERY scared about having them. I think I asked my surgeon two or three times why he had to cut me so much, once I was in tears. I truly was afraid that I would pass out the first time I saw my body looking like Frankenstein, especially with the pie crust incision he does, -- I had everything done at once, so there was no getting used to the scars; it was like jumping into cold Water.

But as it turns out, when I awoke from surgery I was not horrified by them. They don't really bother me. There was once early on when I was in a bathing suit at the gym and I felt self conscious alongside the college girls with my scars. But they are much lighter now and I have body confidence that I did not have before. So they're not so bad. I'll take them over the fat and skin, that is for sure.

You can always opt for laser treatments to lighten them if they really bother you.

PS I did not do any scar therapy -- no tapes, no oils, no creams, etc. I don't know if they would have made a difference by my surgeon did not believe they would and that they were a waste of money.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
