Anyone else having a case of "The Lasts?"

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

this is my first time posting and very new to this support group. I have my surgery (RNY) scheduled for November 5th and set to start Optifast on October 15th. I'm so excited a little nervous too but I'm going through this little phase where I think, "last time for this, last time for that," thing. Like eating at my favourite restaurant for the last time, having a girls wine night etc.. I'm hoping I'm not the only one that has done or who is doing this? I think it's a pretty realistic thing to do considering the massive changes up ahead. Anyone with me here? Lol

Oh Shellbell - yes, I had a case of the "lasts" but what was awful is that it didn't really start until AFTER I began my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. Prior to it I thought oh yeah, this my last Caribou coffee...or this is my last Buffalo Wild Wings. But I didn't really give it much thought. 3 days into the liquid diet I found myself obsessing over wanting just one last time with a chipolte burrito, one last time with a great Pasta dinner. I think it's totally normal. I see your surgery date was yesterday - how did it go??

It was/is hard. I've had some complications but I'm getting better each day..? I think, lol. I'm still in the hospital and I think they're going to release me on sunday night? I've had a bleed somewhere in the process.. Anyone else relate to a bleed?

Girl I'm working my way through some Trader Joe's bon bons. Nothing else too crazy. I do want to eat at a burger spot here in Seattle. They have small grass feed burgers with gourmet toppings. I've always skipped the fries. After that I'm good......My pre-op diet will probably start during Christmas time.

I have been having "last suppers". I have surgery in 4 days and have been cheating on the 2 week prep diet. I told the nutritionist, who told me not to worry about it. They just wanted me to have good nutrition before the surgery. I have used this response to continue the journey of last suppers. I am gonna get back to it tomorrow and call center to let them know what I have done. Hopefully, I will be able to stI'll get the surgery weds. Has anyone else been non-compliant with pre-surgery diet and what happened

I love to have parties. It was always my plan that i was going to throw a "Last Supper" potluck where everybody would bring their favorite guilty pleasure. Then, !!AllOfASudden" my surgical coordinator put me on a liquid diet. There was no warning at all. I contemplated waiting a day or two before I started so I could have a few of my favorite meals, but I decided that it was time to stop messing around with food. I went out and got what I needed for this. She told me I'd be on it until the surgery so that is that. I am pretty glad I made that decision. I do look back every once in a while, but I have to do this. I am 61, and it is my last chance.

I feel the same as you do. I am 56 and I feel it's now or never. My surgery is Dec.4th

The only difference is I do not have to be on a liquid diet. Only clear liquid the day before. We can do this ????

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
