I've been really sick with strep throat and for the past 8 days i had zero energy to even think about working out. So for 8 days i didn't go to the gym, and even ate a little more than usual bcuz i had more time to sit around.

I just started back to the gym yesterday and was really surprised at the conditioning i had lost with cardio. Normally i can push myself on the treadmill for 70-90 minutes but it was a huge struggle to get past 45 min. I had to close my eyes and make the music get me through it.

But i guess it's true what they say that u burn more with weightlifting, and that my 2 months of it has paid off. Even though i didn't visit the gym or watch my calories strictly I still was able to get down another 5 pounds for that week.

I read somewhere in the metabolism advantage book that if you consistantly eat 1200 calories ur body gets used to that and it takes more effort to lose. They say u should go two weeks eating 1200 and then two weeks eating 1500. My doc said that was a nutritionist question, but i haven't seen her to ask. Anyone know if that's true?

Hoping to hit the gym at least 5 times this week and build myself back up. Great work everyone!

Virgina~

I heard the same thing too. Actually, I just told my dad that 1/2 hour ago. I am loving my workouts too. I went this am and did 4 miles on the bike, 140 crunches, arms and back today! Then went out back, swept the porch, picked up dog poop, brushed the dog (he is 140 pound Rotteweiler) and gave him a bath. All in 100 degrees, so that is like a workout. I am not dropping in numbers, can't break through the -23 pounds since I started. But I am going to really drop some calories this week, trying to jump start myself. But I am loving the workouts. Took yesterday off, and had a long hard day! This is a great thread, and I will be back often.

Well, I finally started exercising. Where I work I can get sunshine and exercise at the same time. I can walk around the building twice and it is a mile. I am doing that everyday I am at work. On my days off I go to a park about a block from my house and walk around it, I figure it is about a mile also. I also am starting to record all star workouts on fit tv so I can start working out to those. I worked out when I got home today, on top of walking at work. I need to work on my abs and building my legs up. I am determined to work out more everyday and get this flab off for good!

I never knew my body could hurt so much! I went and walked today and then came home and worked out to my recorded show. I figure the pain will go away some day, hopefully, lol.

I have been wounded in exercise action.... I had a training session thursday in the p.m. and by friday morning my back was totally kicking my butt.... I think I must have pulled/strained something in my lumbar spine probably when I was doing the abductor/adductor leg things. I had a hard time when I was doing them and I think in trying to rush through them, I hurt my back. I have had a terrible weekend being on the heating pad most the time. I went for a massage sunday afternoon and that was none too pleasent, I paid that girl good money to make me miserable. tonight I am going to try to do 1/2 hour on the treadmill, nothing wild tho, gonna keep it light.

Yeah, I was on such a roll too! I called my trainer today and he agreed that we take this week off. And I have my regularly scheduled appt for next week. I told him I was walking the treadmill, not over-doing it tho and he said that was fine. I was able to do 45 minutes last night and I kept my heart rate above 140, so not my normal but at least did get some exercise in. I figure this week I will stick with just the treadmill and get back to regular exercise next week.

Good for you j.s. I know that I personally in the past exercise adventures of mine, once I got hurt, that was it. I would not do it one day and then the next and the next and then I thought oh well, I will just quit all together. You rock!!! Good luck with your walking and hope your back gets back in to shape so you can go out and do those weights. Deanna

areelady,

I know exactly what you mean. I think I am part of that club too. It is too, too easy for me to just slump back into "no exercise" land without even being aware it is happening that is why I am really trying to keep on this. My back is feeling much better and I am thinking that maybe on Friday I will get back to the gym and give it a try.

i've been just OK with my exercising.

i did work out Monday and Tuesday - elliptical / bike / elliptical.

Whatever your doing - IT IS WORKING. I saw your updated before/after pics on the before/after thread - YOU LOOK AMAZING. Your face is much slimmer, your entire body is, but you just look so different, much happier too!

thanks Tonya. i low carbed it for 2 weeks and lost 20 pounds...

but i was eating VERY VERY VERY low carb (usually no more than 10-15 per day).

i have taken time off from low carb (and actually have eaten horribly these past 2 days) so i am sure some has come back on, but i'm OK with that. i am back to low carb either tomorrow or Saturday.

i just dont want to exercise right now. i am just not in that mindset. even though i KNOW i feel better when i do so. **sigh**

you, however, are such an inspiration to me. i cant believe you are doing the BFL ... i dont even think i'd make it 2 weeks!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
