:notagree I'm getting the band in 8 days. I was just wondering if any of your sleeping positions had to change because of getting the band. I have always slept on my stomach. I know I won't be able to do this while I'm healing. Can any of you sleep on your stomach after you have all healed up? Does the port bother you if do sleep on your stomach?:notagree

hi

congrats and good luck on being banded! :(

i am a side/stomach sleeper ... mostly on my side but partially on my stomach at the same time if that makes any sense ...

i was on my stomach 2-3 days after surgery ... it was really weird because as i would move, it felt as if my organs and everything inside of me was shifting, but once i got used to that i was great...

I have always slept on my side. That hasn't changed at all since being banded. Right after surgery, I could only sleep flat on my back, though, or in a recliner, which was easier to get out of than my bed, because any other position made me feel like everything was being pulled on, and was uncomfortable. You should be back to sleeping on your stomach in a week or two.

Yep. Same situation as Travelgirl. After surgery I had to sleep on my back propped up against pillows. After the first week, I was able to maneuver my body slightly to the side with pillows. After the second week I was back to completely sleeping on my side.

Rubylyn, I am also a stomach sleeper, for the first week or two I slept with a small pillow tucked under my left side to prop me up so I was not lying flat. I 'm doing fine now and sleeep like a baby!

I havent been banded yet, but "just in case" I cant sleep on my back like I always do, my husband bought me a new recliner for the first week or so. From what I have read, I should be fine after that!

Good Luck on your surgery and healing rubylyn!!

I have sleep Apnea and must sleep with a mask and CPAP machine on my side. I'm scheduled for surgery May 16th and -after reading these posts - I'm concerned about sleeping following the surgery. Does anyone else have Sleep Apnea and have a solution for sleeping positions following surgery?

I tend to fall asleep on my back and wake up on my side. I use an autopap because a medication I am on decreases my breathing, so I have to use it if I take that (its a very strong hypnotic). I can't sleep on my stomach with it though. but I was sleeping on my tummy without the autopap a week after the surgery. You might want to take your CPAP to the hospital with you. I heard that they put apnea patients on one of theirs sometimes.

I sleep with a CPAP and if I lay on my back, it is off to my right. I usually fall asleep on my right side, but I have a pillow pushed into my back. I have really bad arthritis in my knees, so the nights that it is bad, I fall asleep on my back with my knees on pillows. I didn't notice any difference in how I sleep with my mask. I've never been a stomach sleeper, even at my skinniest may years ago...

I sleep on my right side...use to sleep on left side, but with the port on that side, it is more comfortable to sleep on the right side....

In the begining, I was the same way...I go to sleep on my right because my port is on my left. But as I have dropped the lbs, I can sleep on either side.

I never did not sleep in my bed after surgery.

I see your surgery is tomorrow, No Worry, so best of luck to you...you'll get it all figured out. Everyone is different.

Yup, had my surgery yesterday. Right after I got my 'happy' pill, I lay down on my left side as usual and fell asleep. At 4 a.m. I turned onto my right side and woke up. Walked around a bit to help with the gas, got back into bed - right side again - and just couldn't sleep. Turned on my left and out like a light. And the left side is supposed to be worse because the port is on that side!

Then tried taking a nap this afternoon with no happy pills and lying on either side hurt like heck. This is going to take some adjusting to (or a bigger stock of happy pills!) :P

But as you say, I'll get it all figured out. Surgery went like a charm, but I must be sleep-eating dozens of bean burritos, coz the gas is something else!! :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
