Strange feeling in my port

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I have been banded for just over two months and until now have had no problems and steady weight loss. I had my first fill two weeks sgo. For the past week my port has felt weird. It feels more inflamed and sticking out. When i put my hand on my port and move it around it moves and makes this weird little sound, like a groan, especially when I pull it upwards (does that even make sense?) It wasnt doing this before. Ive also been getting intense gas pains towards the end of the day and stomach aches during the day. Things that may have caused this is I had a diet coke the other day for the first time and Ive pb'd twice. The first time was a full on throw up, the second was just a normal pb. Ive also put on 2 kilos in the last week. Ive also had too much wine twice.

Can anyone help? Im worried my port has moved.

ps: I should also mention I currently have my period, it was 12 days late and very heavy - could this have anything to do with it?

It's pretty normal for your port to be a little loose as you lose weight. It may be a little more sore just from moving around. As long as your surgeon can still access it, it should be fine.

Your port being more mobile wouldn't have anything to do with any vomiting or PB'ing. They are two separate issues.

Have you spoken to your surgeon? If your port is inflamed(is it red or hot and noticeable to the eye?) you should! If you just feel it more, that is normal as you lose. The gas can definitely be related to the soda, so stay away from carbonation. Also, was the wine sparkling? Your period can make you tighter which may explain the PB. Go on liquids for a day because you may have irritated the stoma by PBing. Wait for your period to pass and then talk to your doc if the symptoms persist. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair. Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end. That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
