SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!

Recommended Posts

Hello all, sleeved 9/8 so now 19 days out. Just checking in.

My doc is one that requires 21 days of full liquids only so I have yet to take in any solid foods at all. Moving to soft foods (no puree stage on my program) starting Tuesday on day 22.

So far so good. Really can't complain. Side still indented and hurts a little but other than that no pain. I'm doing premier shakes and a little Tomato Soup each day along with Vitamin supplements.

Down 21 lbs.

To those of you just sleeved, hang in there it gets better each and every day!!

Got sleeved on the 22nd. Feel pretty good still sore and still getting used to things. Haven't pooped yet :( take my colace twice a day but not eating much so maybe that and plus the pain meds hopefully it happens soon. Only weighed myself once so far and I was down about 20 lbs since starting my 5 day pre op till now. Haven't lost since though. Which is weird considering I'm only taking in about 400 calories a day. Each day getting better though. How is everyone feeling? Feels like a lot of stuff happening in there lol

i was sleeved on 9/5 did not have a bowl movement for 5 days. i tried the colace which did not work but i did try colace 2x a day as well. Miralax did the trick for me and no issues since then. In regards to the weight loss has a lot to do with our Protein intake although its hard we have to aim to get close to the goal. Also doing some light weights helps too stimulating the muscles.

@@Rovobay I think you are right. Each day gets a lot better.

Last night I had a dream that I forgot I had surgery and took a big bite of something and swallowed it and then remembered and panicked. Crazy! I am very thankful that I have absolutely no appetite, I'm not even tempted by food around me. Sort of turns my (tiny) stomach to think about eating.

This may be TMI but how long was it before you all had your first bowel movement? I just want to make sure I'm not getting backed up or if it's normal for the first couple of days or so? Thanks.

Where in Florida are you? I'm in Apollo Beach near Tampa.... Sleeved on 9/23

OK I am trying not to panic but I'm annoyed. I was sleeved on 9/15. I had this surgery after two years of seeing specialists, working out, trying every trial med their was with no weight loss. I finally caved and decided this might be the only option in order for me to lose weight. The first week went great. I had the typical gas pain, Constipation and exhaustion, but overall really not that bad. I forced myself to walk every day and I really think that has helped me. I went back to work on Monday. At a week out I had lost 10 pounds and was really plugging away. I'm grateful that I am down 12 pounds now, but i haven't lost ANYTHING since day 8. I am now at day 12. I know this sounds a little crazy but I also know that there is a window that the weight is supposed to really fly off and I feel like I am missing it!!!

Has anyone out there had a stall so early or know of anyone that has?

I am wishing for diarrhea or anything. I just want to go. I have used Colace every day, mMiralax and am not sure what else to do. I now believe that the scale won't move because I'm full of it! LOL. I feel better everyday. I do have dizzy spells in the mornings.....not sure why. Does anyone else have them?

yes I get dizzy !! Sleeved 9/16 n overall doing well... Except being dizzy at times n still taking naps everyday. I start back to work on Monday n a bit worried that I'm not ready

Hello everyone, I was sleeved on 9/10. I also had a severe hiatal hernia repaired. I went home the next afternoon. I have had absolutely no pain. I went home on full liquids and started soft foods at two weeks out. My Dr. and Nut say they want us to eat our Protein, so we are not allowed to have Protein Shakes and are only supposed to eat three meals a day! I walk 4-6 miles every day since coming home from the hospital.

I was Discharged from the hospital yesterday. Feeling good except for a little incision pain plus pain on my sides. I have been doing my walking also. I am having a little hard time getting all my Fluid requirements, since I don't feel like eating or drinking anything. I am working at it. I also started taking my Vitamins yesterday too.

Manage the expectation by not weighing yourself every day....this is sage advice I received personally from someone who went through this....after losing 2#/day for 2 weeks, I lost 5# this past week. Frankly, all of it may have been lost in the first two days or the last two days and it won't matter because I don't know. The fact the loss stalled is accepted to be normal.

so Im curious what everyone is eating at this point.... I'm already eating soft foods and doing really well but I'm at a stall... I've lost 14lbs since the surgery and I'm trying not to step on the scale every day!!! I mean my body can only take in so many calories... why am I not losing more? Anyone else going through this?

I agree with everything else that was said. Additionally you can have Fluid retention- for women premenstrual, medication-induced (ie- many people gain Water weight with meds such as naproxen sodium and others, taking in a lot of high-sodium foods like salty broths. Another consideration is to vary the calories you take in day by day. That may get your metabolism going again. The wisdom of the severe calorie restriction after surgery does elude me somewhat. With such minimal intake, one can easily go into starvation-mode and/or begin to strip muscle as oppsed to burn fat.

I'm on a soft diet also as I go into wk 3 post-op. The things that have gone down the easiest are cheese, Chick-Fil-A grilled chicken nuggets, and sliced deli ham. I've tried scrambled eggs and they cause me a lot of pain, so I'm staying away from them for awhile. A few bites of turkey sausage didn't set well either. Grilled shrimp was ok, but had to take it really slow. I'm trying to stay off the scales daily too - haven't weighed in 3 days. The NP at my doctor's office said they expect the weight loss to be like stair steps with periods of loss and plateaus. Knowing their expectations for success will hopefully help me through the periods of plateau.

Does anyone know of some exercises to make sure I don't end up with excess skin? I think that's my worst fear!!! I'm getting married in 3 months! I'm 2 weeks post op and I'm down 19.8lbs, I'm just super worried about having excess skin!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
