It is most definitely a stairstep journey and the scale is not your friend lol. I have realized a pattern and that in itself keeps me sane. I don't lose for about 3 weeks then I lose for 2-3 weeks. Repeat. So...right now I'm in my holding pattern so I've decided to just stay on the straight and narrow, do what I'm supposed to do, and not sweat the scale to the point that I'm not even going to get on it for several more days. You know what? I'm much happier. Another tidbit. I find that I lose more inches when the scale isn't moving than when it does....weird. hey....go with the flow....fight the good fight....and all will be well! :-)

When talking to my nut about stalls she made a point that really hit home and made a lot of sense. For every pound of fat you lose your body also has to retract the blood vessels that were carrying nutrients. It takes time for your body to adjust and reroute those pathways. Give yourself and your body a break. It's working very hard right now. As long as you are following your plan, this plateau will pass. Good luck!

If it helps (if misery does love company) then I'll share that i'm in my 3-week stall, still, too. Just keep on keepin' on, this is supposed to happen. Your body is a complex organism and its busy doing magic tricks and hiding things up its sleeves. the "and, Voila!" moments will come.

Unfortunately there is a small percentage of us who don't melt away and have to struggle to lose every tiny ounce

i have struggled to lose every ounce that i have..it was not easy.

and i started out with a huge BMI at surgery and some have said i am lucky to have lost

as much as i have so far (170+)

i would have preferred to be what most are now ( under 300 or even under 200)

at my journey starting point (336 pounds and 62 bmi)

i am now where some are starting out (pound/bmi wise) and i know what

it took for me to get to where i am now.....i hope you realize from a bigguns stand

point (aka me), how lucky some of you actually are to be where you are now..

keep going

eat right, drink a lot, exercise and stay positive

just because the scale is not moving as fast as you want does not mean the WLS

you have is not working.....it will catch up dont worry.....also judge your success by

inches LOST as that is true/accurate weight loss..

all the best everyone.

This is normal, as folks are saying. When I went to my dietitian and exercise appt a couple of weeks ago, they told me that they expect for you to lose 10% of your body weight within the first two months.

I do not see what your initial weight was, but you have probably done that.

Up until a couple of days ago I was at a stall for two weeks or more, but I was ok with that. I had a rough time and was getting to a place of healing. Now I am losing how I was before.

I think my stall came a little later on because my progress was different as far as recovery and having a lot of nausea and not able to eat with the stricture I had.

I think what you are going through is normal and you will be back to losing in no time. Try not to weigh yourself for a little while...

so much comforting going on here..... nice to see that you are not the only one, and the fact that it is normal must make you at ease.

I hit my first stall at 6 weeks. I had lost 50 pounds and then ZERO for three weeks . Yesterday was weigh in day and lo and behold I had lost 6 more pounds! DO NOT weigh everyday once a week is plenty. Stick with it youll lose more.

I am so frustrated, I had the sleeve too, first month I lose 12 pounds, not great but not too bad either... Second month 5 lbs only!!! I have been working out 5-6 times per week, both cardio and weights. Eating at least 100 gr of Protein while trying to keep carbs to less than 25 gr. calories to less than 900 per day (more around like 650-750) drinking at least 70oz of Water and all that for 5 lbs!!! ????

So frustrating!!!

You're working out that much you may need to increase your calories.

I think you aren't taking in enough calories for your body to give up the weight.

You are also turning fat into muscle which weighs more. The muscle will help you burn calories and you should start losing again

I could be totally wrong and if so please correct me - but I don't think it's scientifically possible to build muscle while running a significant calorie deficit. Body builders cycle. They eat a lot of calories during muscle building mode - and diet off the fat pre contest. They don't do both at once - because it's not possible. I will thank any person that proves me wrong because I'd love to build muscle while losing fat!!

This is a bit misleading. Fat is fat. Muscle is muscle. You cannot turn one into the other. Fat does not transform into muscle when you work out. Muscle doe not congeal into a lump of fat if you are sedentary. Fat cells shrink when you lose weight and exercise, muscle tissue expands. If you could transform fat into muscle, you would probably win the Nobel Prize in science.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
