How do you cope with stalls and how to get it going again!

Recommended Posts

I am 3 months out in 2 days and have reached my first "official" stall - or so I think - it's been 7 days since i lost a lb! Tell me, when and for how long did you stall in your journey, and what did you do to get it going again?

HI I am at the same point you are. I had my sleeve surgery the 8th of July. I have lost between 50 and 55 pounds but seem to be stuck there. Today for the first time I began tracking my intake. I had not really had to up to this as I ate so little that weight seemed to just fall off. But no longer. So the way I am dealing with it is to take a close look at my intake. What have you tried?

Had surgery on July 18th, stalled for 21/2 weeks. Confused. Eating exactly on the plan given to me. Getting 65 to 75 gms of Protein daily. Getting enough fluids. Just nothing. What else to do? Oh, walking 3 to 4 times a week, about 3 to 4 miles.

I change up my eating, for one. My NUT does not want me to count calories but she does want me to stay with portions and nutritional guidelines. Usually I will increase my meal count for a couple of days and/or change exercise. JoAnn, you lost a lot in two months - your body needs time to catch up! Usually when I lose a lot in the previous weeks - 4-5 lbs, I will hit a week where I won't see a loss, but see the inches going!

FineDiva, that much walking will add leg muscle (personal experience) and those are large muscles! You are probably losing inches, and soon you'll step in the scale and see weight dropping again.

I hit a two month stall. Had my surgery in February of 2014. The only way I broke the stall wasn't really of my doing. I got nauseated one day, and lost my lunch. For the rest of the day and most of the next, I didn't want ANYTHING to eat. That broke the stall. I lost about 4 pounds that week. I'm thinking if I hit another stall, I will try to fast for a day or so, just drinking Protein drinks or something.

How I coped with stalls

1. Weighed once per week (no more, no less) on the same day at the same time, naked.

2. Maintained an exercise plan 5x per week. Hill intervals on a stationary bike. Exercise increases metabolism among its many benefits.

3. Got at least 75g of Protein per day, every day

4. Ate between 1000-1200 calories per day and tried to vary that intake up and down from day to day, (ruts are bad for me).

I did stall, but weighing only once per week kept me from focusing on the scale and kept my focus ON MY BEHAVIOR, where it belongs long term. I think there were only like 2 weeks where I actually lost nothing or gained and one of those was when I gave up the Water pill I'd been taking for BP. I showed at least a fraction of a pound loss the rest of the time.

From your lips to God's ears. Please say it will happen soon. I want to call my surgeon for some reassurance, but afraid I will get emotional and stay crying. That's how much it's affecting me. Thanks for responding.

I had several major stalls during my weight loss efforts and I'm sure I will have 1-2 more before I hit goal. When I realized I was massively stuck, I took a look at what I was eating and if I was working out enough. Everytime I broke a stall it was because I paid more attention to my food and started working out more. If your calories in/ calories out is where it's supposed to be, eventually your body has no choice but to stop holding the weight and the scale will move!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
