Replacement IS in the cards!

Recommended Posts

So I met with my marvelous doctor this morning, and he gave me a green light for having a new band installed. It's just a matter of scheduling and insurance now, and he is confident the latter won't be a problem. YAY!!

He talked a bit about the newest sort of band, the AP band, which is going to be released to the public in June. It's an improvement on the VG band, being even larger and constructed in such a way that no rigid material comes in contact with the stomach. So that's what I'm going to have. Can't wait!!

During this time of unbandedness I've been thinking about the various options, of course. My husband would prefer that I go it alone, because even though he completely sympathizes with my desire to not gain weight, he misses having me to cook for. :fish: But I've seen my old habits and desires come roaring back with a vengeance the last couple of weeks, and have no illusions about my being able to tame the demon even short-term without my silicone angel there to help. Sure, I wish that the last couple of years of behavioral therapy had worked to change everything about my relationship with food, but without the negative reinforcement I'm just nowhere.

Even if it has to be removed again at some point in the future, I'll take that as it comes. It's given me a new lease on life. THIS time maybe I'll have a new perspective on learning how to change my behavior from the inside, but for the time being I'm just hugely relieved to know that a new band is in the works for me.

That's really great news! I am sure that things will go smoothly for you with one of the larger, softer bands. It just makes sense.:fish:

Congratulations :fish:  You must be so happy.

I'd ask to see whatever studies there are on the AP band before agreeing to it, though. Just be sure you're comfortable that this truly is a better Band.

I'm so proud for you Alex,

I am also proud your getting the band. I think it will be much better and I like how it goes completely around and there is no gap around the locking mechanism. Keep us informed and I'm so proud for you.

I hate to say this, because it's just fulfilling my own fantasy and I hope you'll take it in the light hearted way that it's meant...but until the band, what great pig outs do you have planned??? Anything you want to eat a full meal of?

I'd go for Joe's Crab Shack crab legs, myself....and something pasta....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
