Could use some help for my Fiance...She had her surgery last night.

She got hers done by Ponce de Deleon in Mexico. She is currently back at her hotel, resting until her flight home tomorrow, but she can't keep any Water down. She is sipping it slowly and still ends up throwing it up. What can we do?

I found plain Water hard the first few days. I had to have Vitamin water zero or even water with a little grape juice in it. Anything that wasn't plain water. I send my best for a quick recovery!

Contact the nurse / doctor, they should be able to prescribe something for her. Doctors always have on-call answering services. Someone should be able to help. I'm so sorry she's having such a rough time. Is she actually feeling nauseous or just throwing up?

Is she trying cold Water or hot/room temp? My first couple days I couldn't drink anything cold. Hot was best, and room temp was tolerable. Has she tried some broth or tea?

She was able to get some Gatorade and get that down. She's resting now. I'll tell her to try Water at different temps.

Thank you guys for your suggestions/concerns, really appreciate it.

Hi! I'm 6 days post-op. I want NOTHING to do with liquid unless it's really cold. She could also try chewing some tiny/crushed ice cubes. I had horrible gas pain which made drinking tough for the first 48 hours. Walking and chewable Gas-X seemed to help. Best of luck to both of you.

Hello i would keep fluids at room temp for sure. 1st week thats all i could do. And for sure try other fluids. Water seemed to not sit as well in my tummy in the beginning kinda sloshing now much better at 4wks out. Good luck and safe travels.

I had no pain and nausea and was in hospital less than 24 hours. I wish everyone could be so lucky! Make sure she has adequate medical care before you leave. Did she have the leak test? Have you talked to the surgeon? I am so sorry to hear this and I know you are afraid, but I read this all the time and in a day or two things turn around 100%. Saying a prayer for her tonight. God Bless.

You guys are all making me feel a lot less worried. She has her leak test tomorrow along with some other tests before she's clear to come home. I'm hoping that we'll be able to enjoy some broth together soon.

She's a lucky girl, and I hope she turns the corner soon. Good job taking care of her.

I'm 8 weeks post-op, everything went really well, and I still have issues with plain Water. Something about the surface tension and needing an additive of some kind - so Crystal Light, True Lemon/Lime, and trying broth might help her now. I didn't have issues with temps much but in the early days, warm was most most welcome!

I was like that for 72 hours then No problems and I was fine. Give body a chance to heal a bit.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
