I just want answers!?!?!

Recommended Posts

Ok so I have posted before about this and have not really got anyone respond that this has happened to but I am just hoping maybe someone can relate and let me know what I can do to get back where I was.

So I got sick July 4 within 12 days I put on 51 pounds (went from 168 to 221) but i was very swollen. Went to the hospital and got admitted July 17th they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me got released July 19th. Went and seen different doctors since then and no one know what is wrong. My liver enzymes are elevated and I'm going to a GI doctor September 16. I was put on medication at the hospital for the swelling and went from 221 to 209 in about 2 weeks. I ran out of meds for 2 days and put on about 20 pounds so now I'm around 230.

I got my band adjusted July 9 but my doctor put everything she took out back in on July 30th. But I don't have any restriction at all and before with that amount in my band I couldn't get nothing down but she wanted to test it. The soonest she can see me is Sept 4th.

I know this is a long shot and it may not have anything to do with my band but I am very devastated with the weight gain and wanting to know if this has ever happened to anyone. Or if someone has put all there weight back on but lost it again?

Thanks in advance!

I wish I could give you answers but I haven't had this happen. When I had my Fluid taken out, I still was feeling some restrictions. After my fill, I don't feel as restricted but I just keep watching what I eat so I won't gain weight. Try really chewing your food, limiting portions and walking away after 20 minutes even if you have food left. It takes at least 20 for the brain to signal that you are full. Hope this helps you some

Sorry, but I gotta ask? Are all these extreme weight gains due to food you're eating or is it your body retaining fluids?

My body is retaining Fluid. I eat healthy I just have no restriction. Plus everyone said eating 51 pounds of food in 12 days is nearly impossible and you would have to do nothing all day. I work out and eat healthy.

I am so sorry you had this scary experience. Please bug the doctors until you get answers. I have not had his happen but a relative once had a medical emergency and gained over 40 pounds of Fluid in a matter of a few days, so I've seen it first hand. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

I agree just keep on the Doctors asses about it. I hope they have you on a duretic? Find a specialist to see. I wouldn't think this is weight loss issue. It could be a kidney or cardiac issue so please don't give up till you have answers. Good luck

Oh I stay on them they just send me for blood work and tell me to see my lap band doctor (guess thats there easy way out). I am on diuretics and I'm going to see the gi doctor sept 16th so hopefully he can give me some answers. As for the kidney and cardiac issue everything has been checked and the doctors say they are in good shape!

I just have to believe that this is not band related and timing is coincidental. No way are you gaining actual wt at that rate.

I really hope not! I'm praying and hoping that the doctor I see next will be able to figure it out and get it under control.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
