Had my Sleeve Aug 20, 2014

Recommended Posts

Had my sleeve on Aug 20th my top weight was 498lbs in Aug of 2013, I had what I think was a successful prep year (that's how long it takes up here in Canada) I lost 115lbs from Aug 2013-July 2014 and 20 lbs on the pre-op liquid diet. I did all the mental prep everything I was ask to do, I woke up after the surgery and I have been second guessing my decision, ever since, anyone else have this? hope it's just not me.

I'm right there with you man, I'm second guessing myself very much. I really am feeling sad / depressed about that fact that I won't be able to really eat much at all anymore.

I know that this is the norm for people with the Sleeve but man do I wish I could have a chipotle burrito right now or some fries from BK. I'm hoping to make better health choices for food but man am I hating the world right now.

From what everyone says if we stick to it and take it slow, it'll be very worth it. I had this surgery suggested July and by Aug 22nd I had been sleeved. Insurance covered it and I didn't really think it would happen this fast. But hey I had the surgery and now I'm here.

I still kind of feel hungry but I think its mental hunger.

We can't undo what we did, we just have to look forward man. We will get through this ! Think of how awesome we are going to feel and look when we are closer towards our goal weight.

Keep me posted , I'm feeling the same way so if you need to talk man let me know.

My first week I felt the same. I took my time leading up to surgery and then immediately after surgery I was worried I had made a huge mistake. I think it has to do with mourning the relationship we have always known with food. I am now two weeks post op and I am pain free and tolerating my diet and feel really good about having the surgery :)

Holy cow I can't believe your process moved so fast!!! I had to go through so many hoops to get approved by Insurance. There is no way I would have been mentally ready that quick and even with the time I took I still have days of doubts. I am sure those will lessen the further out from surgery.

I didn't think it would move that fast either but I work with Doctors for my job and knew the right people to see for the "checklist" they give you. I saw all the doctors and still through insurance would delay or stall, especially since I didn't have a main doctor so I wrote my own letter. Regardless I'm hoping this gets better because man do I miss the food. I think my mind has to catch up with my body at this point.

Hi Ban,

I haven't been sleeved yet but I do get insight from reading your posts and others. I just want to quote my father who once told me 'when you make a decision, don't look back." I think that's applicable here. You can't go forward while looking in the rear view mirror. Your best days are ahead of you.:) Remain focused on the new life you are creating for yourself. I think the "decision" was the hardest part! Your new tool will help you on your journey to a new and improved you. I think that's great for u and those on here!

Hi Ban... I too was sleeved aug. 20th, so far pretty happy, i spent last night mourning food as well. I think this is normal, and i think we have to wrap our head around the permanence of our decision... Im down 14 lbs since surgery and trying not to think about food (still on liquids) i am focusing on the prize of this journey.. To be healthy and happy.... I keep repeating a phrase that i learned the 9 times i joined weight watchers over the years... " nothing tastes as good as thin feels" good luck to you and stay strong!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
