I have bought a bunch of different samples from different healthy stores to try. I have decided to take a sharpie and write YES or NO on them and keep the packages so I will know what ones to buy again and what ones NOT to buy again. Plus from what I am reading, your tastes sometimes change after surgery. So, I am trying to not buy too much before my surgery. I have heard people either love or hate the Isopure in bottles. Someone suggested freezing it like slushies to drink it too.

Good luck!

Unjury - love the chocolate splendor flavor and still use it frequently. Right after surgery I also used their chicken Soup a lot.

Isopure - the RTD stuff? Absolutely vile and disgusting IMO. Still, for the first four weeks or so after surgery, I gagged it down almost every day, mixed 50/50 with G2 or Powerade Zero to make it somewhat palatable. It was so helpful in getting my Protein in and staying low carb. But as soon as I could transition to other types of drinks (and purees) that helped with the protein, I could. They call it Isopuke for a reason!

I haven't tried the liquid Isopure but another suggestion I read is to dilute it with Water and add a packet of Crystal Light in the same flavor as the Isopure. Then just tweak it a bit by adding more water if needed to get it down.

unjury is quite nice and no issues at all. i used it a lot.

i THOUGHT i would tolerate Isopure after having a couple sips but after 1./3 bottle felt like i was going to gag. Honestly Isopure reminds me of those New whey shots, just in a huge amount. I couldn't tolerate it AND they are pretty costly too!

It's great hearing others' comments about the different kinds of Protein drinks available. I've been drinking the unjury since about May 1st and love it. The surgical dietitian I met with last week suggested I try some other brands because taste preferences may/can change following surgery. Since I don't plan to have the surgery until February 2015 there's plenty of time to try other options. Today is the first time I've heard anyone say they don't like the Isopure (glad I haven't bought any yet). Has anyone tried the Premier Protein from Sam's yet? Thoughts? I've heard it's good. What I'm discovering is that most of the Protein beverages that are truly good tasting are a whey protein CONCENTRATE rather than whey protein ISOLATE (like the Unjury). I've been having better weight loss results with the ISOLATE/Unjury than anything I've tried before. I, too, would appreciate some suggestions for protein beverages (ready to drink or powder) that are good tasting and high protein content. Thanks!

Hi all! The Isopure is absolutely disgusting!!!!! I tried the grape frost and the alpine punch. They were awful!!!! I am sending mine back. I tried the Unjury strawberry sorbet and I hate it. I've heard so many positive things about Unjury though. I do like the Premier Protein. I've only tried vanilla. Going to try the chocolate and strawberry soon.

@@MrsSugarbabe I like Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard and Jay Robb Protein powders, as well as Syntrax Nectar. They are all whey isolate and have great numbers and lots of good flavors. Many people like the Syntrax nectar fruit and tea type flavors because they mix with Water and are thinner - easier to drink after surgery. Also those flavors count as "clear liquids" if you are required to do those for a while. I personally prefer the Syntrax Nectar Sweets flavors that mix better with milk - chocolate truffle, double stuffed cookie, latte Cappuccino, and vanilla bean torte.

Jay Robb samples:

You can get samples of Optimum Nutrition and Syntrax Nectar here:

http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/protein-powders/protein-powder-samples-1-serving.html

They don't have all the Optimum Nutrition flavors but they do have a pretty good selection.

I didn't care for the Premier Protein shakes but I know lots of people love them. They were more tolerable to me than most other brands of RTD, I will say that.

I am an outlier on this issue but I don't think it makes that much of a difference if you drink whey concentrate rather than isolate. Follow your own RD/Nut's instructions of course but I never made a point of sticking with isolate and I don't think it hurt me.

Thanks for the info, Bufflehead. I'll certainly check out your recommendations. Congratulations on your weight loss to date!!! :D What you're doing obviously is working quite well for you.

Clear Liquids will be a must for me following surgery, for a short time. The NUT suggested finding some RTDs now to try, but not to load up on just one thing since my taste preferences could change. She didn't say I had to stay with the isolate, that's my preference at this point. Some of the mixes I've tried and like are the concentrate, but they don't have as much Protein in them as the unjury. Seems that the concentrate mixes have more carbs per serving and I am trying to keep that a low as possible. I wanted to start experimenting now since I have some time to go before surgery. Thanks for sharing!

Dragonfly1111: Thanks for the warning re: Isopure (you and several others). When you tried the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury strawberry sorbet did you mix it with lemonade or something else? It's not my top favorite, but I do like it in lemonade and drink it occasionally. For lunch at work, I frequently drink the chicken Soup (watch the Water temp!) and for Breakfast I will mix one serving each of the vanilla and chocolate splendor with skim milk and add a little room temp brewed coffee for a mocha shake - this is my favorite so far. I've also mixed in a banana with the vanilla PP and skim milk which is delicious. I wish you luck in finding a beverage that works for you :) Wouldn't it be great if there was one place we could go to try samples of all these things before we bought it? :)

Oh I was so excited when I heard about Isopure because it has so many grams of Protein. I could not stomach the taste of it! It was AWFUL. I like Unjury really well, except I do not care for the strawberry sorbet. I use a lot of the vanilla and add sugar free fat free pudding and skim milk with ice (since I am still pre op for a couple more days) After my surgery on Monday I will probably have to skip the ice because it is a lot of bulk and very filling.

Ok guys. I ordered Isopure from BariatricChoice.com. They have 8oz individual bottles. I got 3 flavors and here are my reviews.....

Blue Rasberry. The taste isn't that bad. It has a strange taste..but not awful. The smell, however, is terrible; it reminds me of my daughter's morning breath...seriously. If I don't breathe, I can deal.

Alpine Punch. Not good. Not bad... and by not bad, I mean, I can do it for a day or two.... I hope.

Grape. Same story.

I would not drink these on any normal day, but I need the Protein, so I will do it....

I am another one that doesn't care for the premier at all. I have only tried the chocolate. It is very, very, very thick.

That being said it is quite popular, so there's a good chance that you would like it.

Good luck!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
