Lapband with plication

Recommended Posts

I had the surgery on Thursday afternoon and felt absolutely awful until this afternoon. I couldn't stop vomiting the first day, even though I hadn't drank anything but sips of Water and 1/2 Popsicle and 3 or 4 tiny bites of Jello.

My dr called in a prescription for nausea and so I'm doing much better. I still have to take it a little sooner than 6 hours apart because I feel myself wanting to throw up in about 4-5 hours after I use one.

The surgeon also discovered a hiatal hernia so they repaired that. As soon as I woke up from surgery, I regretted the decision to have it and until today I still kind of did. But now, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and it's going to be just fine! ;-)

Plication is relatively new, just in case you don't know about it. It can be done with or without the lapband, but the success rate so far with this surgery is really high. They take your stomach and told it over itself and stitch it up. In case of an emergency, the stitches can be removed, I didn't lose any of my stomach, and of course the band is removable. Some call procedure sleeve with no staples.

I am so glad to hear that it has given you hope. I honestly thought about getting the surgery so much that I never even worried about afterwards and it was really rough! But now I'm on day 3 and with friends and family praying for me, I am finally seeing the proverbial "light at the end of the tunnel!" Please let's keep in touch! Also, be sure you get the suppositories for naseau, I didn't have them for the first 24 hours and I vomited 6 times, so gross! Not any food, but even a sip of water! I was so scared that I had made a huge mistake. So my best advice is if you are feeling horrible, it will Pass! Lol

I have a lot of friends and family praying for me too! (at least the ones I decided to tell) I have my nausea suppositories, but I'm a little nervous because I have never used suppositories before. I had to ask a really close friend some questions about how to use them correctly... you know it's a good friend when you can ask about sticking something up your butt! :)

I would love to keep in touch...I am sure I will be asking you a lot of.."Did this happen to you..." kind of questions. I will add you as a friend on here. :)

Thanks for your advice and encouragement!

Jen

@@planningband07 How are you feeling? Hopefully better! Had my surgery yesterday....went well. I am hurting a lot more from the gas pains in my upper body than incision sites right now. It was hard to get down even Water yesterday, but feeling better this morning. Will try a Protein drink today, and do some more walking around the house. Sure am looking forward to being healed and able to eat and exercise normally to get this weight loss going! :)

Have a great day!

Here are a few tips: for the "gas" pains it helps to try sipping some warm tea and placing a warm heating pad under your back/shoulder where the discomfort is.

An ice pack where the incisions are will help to numb the pain especially around the port site.

When you are trying to drink fluids, sip use a teaspoon or a medicine cup to sip from. Your insides are very swollen and it will take time for them heal, just as it will take some time for your outside incisions to heal.

Ice pops are another great tip for something solid as well as for hydration.

You will be feeling better soon. I love my band and plication!!

I'm feeling so much better, thanks! ...but I'm afraid I may have made a mistake. I think maybe because I was so sick before, and am not now, I was so hungry today! I ate some soft serve ice cream and just now a little canned spinach with garlic salt! Listen to me, I sound pregnant! Lol. Anyway, I didn't eat near as much of either of the foods that I could have or that I used to eat. I'm hoping that I haven't damaged anything or will not have a horrible night. I just wanted something that tasted like real food! ????

Hope it didn't make you sick! I'm not feeling like eating anything yet. The Protein Shake tasted gross to me today, and I was only able to have a Popsicle. Just anxious to get past this and start feeling better!

Thanks for hoPing it didn't make me sick, it didn't! Thank goodness. The Protein Shakes are disgusting to me now, too. And the Popsicles are the best, but it sucks that's all you can keep down! Hoping you have a better day and I have a BM before long! Lol still haven't had one yet!

Today was a little better. Made myself drink a lot more Water, and had some beef broth. I know I need to get more Protein in, but the taste of things is off. I did have a BM yesterday so at least I have that going for me! Hope you can say the same soon! :)

I have had a BM for the last 3 days, and have been using a stool softener to make it happen. I hope I'm not becoming dependent on these things! The directions said not to take over 5 days, so I'm gonna try to go the next couple of days without using the suppositories.

So I passed out in the hall today. I got up from the bed too fast and started feeling lightheaded. Usually I'm fine just hanging onto the wall while it passes, but today my legs must have just given out. Thank goodness I didn't hurt my stomach area, but really sprained my right ankle, hurt my left knee, and busted up one of my toes. I am being very careful now anytime I get up! Now I can barely walk just as I was getting better. So stupid! :(

Glad things are moving through better! :)

Yikes !! I've had recent lightheaded episodes but not passing out. I've come to realize my blood pressure has gone down with my weight loss and I've already kicked one BP med to the curb and it may be time to reevaluate my other one. Anyway sorry you were injured. My daughter has low BP and can faint sometimes. She noticed that when she takes Claritin for her seasonal allergies it raises her BP a little and she's has no episodes this summer.

I went to urgent care today where they took X-rays, nothing broken, but I have a right sprained ankle and they are worried I might have torn a ligament in my knee. The doctor gave my a prescription to get a knee brace fitted tomorrow. She wants me to at least give it a couple days to heal before trying to work. I really wanted to be there for the first day of school, but I can barely walk...My husband has to help me walk anywhere.

On a better note, not feeling pain from surgery today...of course the pain from my knee could be drowning it out! :)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
