Statistic of multiples post op?

Recommended Posts

Just to say upfront: We DO NOT have any intention on trying until I am at least 1 year post op...

I've read that the chances of multiples go up post op...how long is this the case, and how frequently? I've struggled with PCOS ever since I was 12, so I worry that I'll be the ONE woman who will still be infertile post op...

I'm just waiting for my doctor to release me to TTC--He said he will probably release me in January (right after hitting the 18 month mark).

I'm still curious about the statistics behind having multiples post-op...does anyone have any info for me? I don't really mind either way, I just need to know if I should mentally prepare my husband for the possibility, and I am wondering if the statistics are about the same for people without the surgery and ourselves, or do we have a higher chance of a multiples pregnancy.

I would suspect that it's just like in any other pregnancy - genetics or fertility treatments increase your odds of multiples. After that, it just a matter of fate! I told my husband when we do start trying, I hope it's twins, because at my age I feel like we have one shot. And his mom is a twin.

I had surgery in 2012

Single Birth (baby #5) 2013

Single Birth (baby #6) 2015

I am 37 (increased chance of multiples)

I have had multiple pregnancies (increased chance of multiples)

I do not think there is a correlation. I think it is more genetic and or drug induced.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
