You should check with your surgeon's office, but generally waiting for 6 weeks is required. Best wishes.

Light weight lifting...like 5-10 pound arm weights while you're sitting down won't hurt you right now. I was fully back into a gym routine at 5 weeks, but I feel as if at 2 weeks my incisions were still pulling a bit and any real type of lifting might have been uncomfortable. Let your body be the judge...if it hurts, don't do it. :)

Hi There, I am also about two Weeks Post Op as well, and cant wait to get back in the Gym. My Doctor said nothing but walking, walking, walking for four weeks. However I am doing plenty of Summertime household chores around the house which is also helping. Just have to be a little more patient.

Walked right after surgery and then starting light lifting about 3 weeks post op or so. But everyone is different. Whenever you are released to start more intense exercise, just make sure to ease into it and gradually build up. Your body will be a lot different (kind of like a kid in a growth spurt) and you'll need to learn how to handle it (your body) again. Congrats on your excitement and eagerness to exercise and I wish you the best!

I read that the stationary bike and treadmill are okay as are swimming but to wait a few more weeks on heavy lifting. Congrats!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
