I was banded on 4-4-07 and when i weighed in for my 2 week post op i had lost 13.5 lbs and was super excited !!! Since ive gone on soft foods i find myself eating "normal" things that i would before the surgery, just chewing a little more. I recently used a doctor office scale at my university to see my progess and it showed i had gained back 3 of those pounds. I have not had my first fill yet and attribute some of my ability to continue to eat regularly to that, but ive also began to excercise again walking/running 3 miles at least 4x's a week. In my mind scientifically there should be no reason for weight gain. Its really discouraging to me to see these kinds of results. I really want this to work for me, its my last resort. Does or did anyone else have this problem ?

I have not gained, but I am not losing...I am also on soft foods...but I measure 1/2 cup and I only eat three meals a day...I can't imagine not losing doing this....I have not exercised as much as I need to...I will start walking more on treadmill....

Remember, you always weigh more in the afternoon, than morning...and I never weigh when I am dressed...this will contribute to weighing more...and you may weigh more because you are building muscle....from exercising....I am sure it will come off....just hang in there....and stick to the plan...you will get it off....

Water retention, normal daily & weekly fluctuation. For the first few weeks you're losing weight, you have to expect some of it is Water weight. Especially with the kinds of post-op diets we have. It's hard to NOT be in ketosis. You shed a lot of water weight fast when you enter ketosis. And when you break ketosis, it comes right back. You mentioned you've started eating normal - it's a strong possibility that this happened to you. Or just generic water retention. It's getting warm out, you're near TOM, you ate something high in sodium, who knows.

There are a few things to be addressed here

1) weight will bounce up and down a few pounds in a days time. I can weigh as much as 5 pounds more in the evening than I did that very same morning.

2) Every scale is different, even two medical scales that are calibrated the same with in a day or so one can be off by as much as 3 or 4 pounds.

3) THE FIRST 6 WEEKS ARE FOR HEALING....I don't think that can be stressed enough. About 50% of people gain before the first fill. After surgery you lost a good amount of weight and it's normal to gain some of it back when you start to resume normal foods. Also soft/mushie foods are usually high calorie or high fat.

4) if you are running 4x a week you are probably gain muscle and that weighs more than fat. Try measuring once a week instead of weighing. ~Mandy

It could be the scale.. I know you used a doctors scale.. but they are all calibrated differently... It could also be something as simple as a full bladder... You weight can fluctuate up to 5 lbs up or down a day... As tempting as it is... try not to weigh yourself between appointments. (I know it's hard... ok, ok, maybe even close to IMPOSSIBLE). Instead, go by how you FEEL... clothing fitting better?? Notice a little bit more muscle definition???

My doctor told me not to be surprised if I gained weight before my first fill and during the switch to solids. He said there tends to be a mini plateau before the first fill.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
