Tiny tummy

I still find it funny when I find myself finally getting hungry and sitting down to eat and after 5 or 6 bites I am done. I have been traveling all week so I have been eating out and they keep bringing me these huge plates of food. I am at the point now I tell them to only bring the meat. I get the strangest looks but just assure them nothing else will get eaten, ever.

Ha! My summer is finally over and we do a bunch of workshops and professional development before we get back into the classrooms, so I've been eating out a lot with my co-workers. At first I would get strange looks because I wouldn't order anything to drink. Then, the waitress would ask if I was unhappy with my meal because I only took a few bites, and she would be more than happy to replace with something else. I ended up doing the same thing by the end of the week, but with the edition of a veggie.

wcn1970,

Good for you in sticking to your plan!

I can so relate. I was in Michigan and ordered a wet burrito. It was huge! I only ate a few bites and the waitress asked: "Is something wrong with your food?" I responded that I had 80% of my stomach removed. She gave me an even stranger look then! I don't try to explain it anymore.

If there's a high Protein appetizer on the menu, I'll order it for a whole meal and sometimes still have some left. I have shared a small portion of someone's meal as well. Unfortunately, if you are alone you don't have anyone to share with :( .

I didn't truly realize just how massive the portions are at restaurants are until after I had my surgery and can eat only a few ounces.

Hmm...I wonder if asking if the food is OK is a suburban thing. I also eat very little of my meal but have never had the server ask anything other than if I was finished. I guess they are used to crazy anorexic people here in NYC...LOL!!

Lol! I'm from Texas and, as the saying goes, "everything is bigger in Texas"...including people's appetites!

NYC, oh, trust me -- outside the city centre everybody wants to know your business. You're expected to explain your life to complete strangers.

It's ridiculous.

@@wcn1970 I've had the same feelings. I've been amazed at how little I can eat compared to previously. It's requiring a big readjustment but getting there. I'm only 3 months out (incl pre-op) and down 28kgs (61lbs) since starting.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
