Thanks for all the support for the Marathon...but I had to drop out because I wasn't able to make my training goals (or fundraising goals) in time. But Jolisue, I am definitely NOT a runner...just a walker. I'm taking my baby steps to get further each day!

And Nurselori...I still cannot figure out how to get the attachment to save and post here, but as soon as I have a few minutes I will post them on here one at a time for you. :)

Hope everyone is doing well! (I went with my mom to Artlando in the park yesterday...had a great time...started feeling really bad after about 2 hrs of walking...then when I got back to the car I realized I had walked 6.3 miles...OMG...no wonder!!)

Hi Beth,

That's amazing you walked 6 1/2 miles! I love hearing how well folks are doing! I'm sleeping great, which is kind of new for me. I have a CPAP which helps.

My sister is visiting me this weekend. She had a gastric sleeve 12/27/13, and has met her goal. She looks amazing and has been a great inspiration to me. She has also been encouraging me to walk! We did 1/2 mile 2x yesterday.

Her diet is different than mine to a degree in that she isn't at risk for dumping. But she is eating pretty much how I imagine I will eat. She and my husband went out to dinner last night and she brought home a container of leftovers that probably be another 2 meals! Cheap date right?

I hope all have the best day ever!

Small update: day 7 and I've lost 20 lbs, which is the weight loss from pre op diet, now minus the Fluid gain from surgery! Now I start the true journey post op! So happy! Current weight: 245! Goal weight: 162

I suffered from a ton of nausea today. My surgery was on Wed morning (24th). so I am on my 5th post surgery day. Every single sip I took hit me with rolling nausea. So I only got in about half of my goal for Fluid and Protein. And haven't even attempted the chewable Vitamins yet today.

If I still feel this way tomorrow, I will call the doc for some nausea meds.

I am doing fine with everything else. Haven't even touched the pain meds they prescribed, and I am sleeping well at night and walking around the house and around our one acre property. Tomorrow I might try walking out on the road.

Gosh, I hope everyone else feels a bunch better than I do!

Hi! Sorry to hear about your nausea! Day 3 was my most difficult. Today is one week, day 8, and I'm really good. I'm having a hard time regulating my body temp. Last night I had chills so bad I was worried I had a fever. This morning took my temp and I'm normal. Go figure. ☺️

Now to be really honest, I think I had a dumping issue because I ate peanuts! I'm on liquid phase of the program. I couldn't take one more shake or blended Soup, so I grabbed a handful, probably 1/4 cup. I chewed really well so I hope nothing gets stuck in my wounds! But about 30 minutes later, I had the chills. I didn't get nauseated, but I felt a bit of discomfort around my surgery sites! I'm feeling pretty ashamed! Today is a new day and I'm making a commitment to stay on track!

I have been tempted to try just a nibble of something normal. But I am really scared to even try it.

I think I may have figured out what made me so nauseated yesterday. The day before I made some broth and put in a 1/2 scoop of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein mixed with a spoon and put it into the microwave. When it came out it had little clumps of Protein in it. I tried to strain those out, but I assume I ended up swallowing a small clump that got stuck.

Today has started out much better. Tiny trickles of Water to start. A walk in the park, then home to my protein Breakfast. I almost feel normal again. (Not really)

Funny you should mention problems regulating your body temperature. Me too! I went from a hot flashing woman to a chilly chick overnight. We are not taking in enough calories to keep warm, and I swear, the most comforting pleasure I have in life right now is the heating pad I keep down in the foot of the bed. I just snuggle in and ahhhhh... The heat feels so good!

I can hardly wait till my surgeon releases me to swim in the hotsprings nearby!

Alibye...so glad you are feeling better!

Please be careful with the temp of the unjury...it cannot go over 140 degrees. I have found that with a thermometer, I can get mine to 138 degrees before it clumps...and it mixes so much better when it is cold. FYI...my MD says I can't swim til after one month check up...bummer, I really wanted to go to the waterpark this past weekend....

Wow! My surgery was 9/11. I walk everyday, but not nearly that much. I am just past the pureed stage, and can have any Protein meats that I want (of course, chewed to death), but I am not allowed to have vegies and fruit until 8 weeks out. Funny how all the rules are different for docs. Glad to hear you are doing well.

By the way, I posted my favorite shake recipe in the September 2014 forum if you would like to try it.

Hi Alora! How are you doing? How was your first week? Any issues with getting enough Protein or walking?

I am finally starting to feel better (surgery 9/10) now. I am up to walking 1.2 - 1.4 miles a day now (only 2 days so far, but hey...its a start lol). Sounds kinda dumb...but I got thru my first sneeze this morning...felt like my insides came out but nothing serious really happened lol.

I still can't get anywhere near my necessary protein or fluids in...but am managing to get all my Vitamins finally...and some real food. Yippee! My favorite I have found is pureed Tyson chicken (in a can with the water) mixed with pureed Tuscan Broccoli (frozen) and mixed with Cheesy Salsa. OMGoodness, it is sooo good after not being able to eat!! Hoping and praying everyone is doing well! :)

OK...here are a few of the Protein shake recipes I have. They are good all thru the pre-op diet stage, and from the full liquid post-op diet stage (and forever to increase protein). You can alter the consistency by adding more or less ice cubes or liquid. You can replace the ice cubes with frozen fruit for a creamier consistency.

Frozen chocolate banana

6 oz Water

4 ice cubes

2 scoops chocolate Protein powder

1/2 banana

strawberry Cream

6 oz fat free milk (or Lactaid, light soy milk, or Almond Milk -unsweetened)

4 ice cubes

2 scoops vanilla PP

1 tsp sugar-free strawberry Jello mix

Chocolate Covered Strawberry

6 oz Water

6-8 frozen strawberries

2 scoops chocolate PP

Peach Perfection

6 oz water

4 ice cubes

2 scoops vanilla PP

1/2 cup canned (in 100% juice) or fresh peaches

Mounds Bar (one of my favorites!)

6 oz fat free milk (Lactaid / light soy / almond milk-unsweetened)

4 ice cubes

2 scoops chocolate PP

1 tsp cocnut extract

Banana Cream Pie

6 oz water

4 ice cubes

2 scoops vanilla PP

1 tsp sugar-free banana pudding mix

Cafe Mocha

6 oz fat free milk

4 ice cubes

2 scoops latte PP

1 tsp sugar-free chocolate pudding mix

Pina Colada

6 oz water

4 ice cubes

2 scoops vanilla PP

1/2 cup pineapple chunks

1 tsp coconut extract

Orange Creamsicle

6 oz fat-free milk

4 ice cubes

2 scoops vanilla PP

1 tsp sugar-free orange Jello mix

Rasberry Banana Blast

6 oz water

4 ice cubes

2 scoops vanilla PP

1/2 banana

1 packet of rasberry crystal light

Cherry Cheesecake

6 oz water

1/2 cup frozen cherries

2 scoops vanilla PP

1 tsp sugar free cheesecake pudding mix

More to come when I have more time...enjoy!

Ok, here is a question: I have a very slight pain below my right rib cage, right side, like a gas pain. I woke up with it. Does anyone else have this or similar? I called the doc but I haven't heard from him yet. I'm so scared its a leak! I'm hoping it is a gas pain but I thought I was over that. ????

Just got back from ER. Good news, no leaks, clots or infection. Bad news: my hitsl hernia was do big, apparently I have a large amount of Fluid collecting where the hernia used to be. My body will absorb the fluid but until it does I will have this pain.

I also had surgery on 9/29, trying to meet my liquid goals. Currently in phrase 2 of the full liquid diet. I am feeling good except for my left foot, woke up this morning in a lot of pain. I really hope I am not having a gout attack and for some reason my nails look purple. See my doctor next week for a follow up visit and get the staples out.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
