Hello everyone, I am new to this site but soooo glad I found it. I will be having my surgery 8/19/2014 and would like to know from all of you what you think I will need to take with me for post surgery. I have heard from some people that Gas X strips work wonders...a pillow for comfort etc....any other suggestions? :)

I was very happy I took my slippers with me. haha Other than that, lip balm, change of undies and my Kindle were all I used. The hospital provided simethicone if I asked for it, but honestly it didn't do much. Walking and moving around were what helped with the gas pain.

I'm still a pre-op (not even scheduled yet), but I found this list on another forum:

A typed list of the medicines you take
Loose fitting comfortable clothes - like loose fitting gym shorts, sweats, loose tops
Extra underwear
Front zip sports bra
A robe
A pillow (To put over your stomach so that you can put your seat belt on after surgery, to place over your stomach when you need to cough)
ChapStick
Gas X - the kind that melt on your tongue were highly encouraged for me
Dry Shampoo
Open back Slippers (non-slip)
iPod with headphones (or something to listen to during your recovery)
A loose house robe to go around your hospital gown
A good book
Lotion
Water bottle for the ride home
Personal toiletries-toothbrush, toothpaste, Shampoo, body wash, lotion, hairbrush, make-up and deodorant
Earplugs (In case your roomie snores!)
Important Phone numbers
Insurance card
Biotene mouth spray (For dry mouth)
Mouthwash or mouth spray
Cell phone and charger
Gas-X
Baby wipes
hair band
A camera to take before pictures
CPAP machine if you use one
Reading glasses or prescription glasses
Favorite photos that will comfort you
A copy of your living will
A copy of your power of attorney
A fan (if you like sleeping with one)
Room Fragrance -- You might find that you are a little ‘gassy’ after surgery and the smell may surprise you! If you’re someone that doesn’t want everyone that walks in the room to share the aroma, bring a bottle of air freshener.

I took too much stuff with me. All I ended up using was:

my pillow

chap stick

my slippers (with good tread)

Iphone/headphones

Undies

Loose dress to go home in

Insurance card, ID, credit card

Hairtie

As far as Gas-X, most hospitals will not let you take any meds that don't come from their stock.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
