I searched first but now I have to ask

Recommended Posts

When you are on the 3, 4, 5, or 6 month medically supervised pre-op diet do they count the first visit or is it in reality 1 month longer?

I have a hard time getting any information from my insurance company (I guess all WLS information is classified as Top Secret lol). I have my first appointment with the surgeon next week and I will ask him then. I just wondered about everyone else's experience.

Thanks!

Summer.

It may depend on the Dr. I was told it would count. Then my Dr retired when I was on month 4. My new Dr said it doesn't count so I did 7 months.

It is ins requirement. I am sorry you had to put in extra time. That really sucks. Hope everything else is going well for you. Did you have the surgery already?

I had my surgery July 9th! I had a rough start. I had a bad reaction to the morphine in the hospital and one of my incisions became infected. But now I feel great! Going back to work on Monday. I both look forward and dread going back:)

I thought about this also. So if the first visit is let's say May 1 with a dr and second visit is June 1. That would be one month. So for a three month supervised diet you would need to see the dr 4 times?

That is the way I had to do it. I would ask your Dr though. :)

I thought it would be the extra month but I was foolishly hoping it was actually ONLY 5 months lol. I will check with the surgeon next week and let you all know what he says.

@micmt Good luck to you wherever you are in your journey :)

Mine was 4 supervised visit with my surgeon or 6 visits to my doc. So I started to see my surgeon and my first visit was dec, jan, feb, march and then they submitted my paper work, was approved march 21 and had my surgery march 31. So yes it has to be a month apart.

Ok I met with my surgeon today and I asked about this and was told I only have to do a visit to my PCP once a month for 5 months! This is good news :)

Thanks for your replies!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
