First fill today and words of advice would be appreciated

Recommended Posts

I'm so nervous, this is my first appointment since the surgery on the 1st July 2014 and this will be for my band fill too!! They only put an empty band in during surgery so I'm feeling anxious about how it's going to be afterwards!

Since the 3rd week post surgery my appetite has been big and I've eaten a fair amount! I'm feeling like a bit of a failure to be honest as I went abroad with my husband, kids and parents (my parents don't know I've had this surgery and wouldn't understand either) and I pretty much ate as I always did before but in smaller portions this time which is not good.

I'm hoping that after this fill my appetite will decrease and I can start as I mean to go on and since I got back from holidays on Tuesday I've been eating a lot better. I've lost only 10kg to bring me to 91kg since pre op so I'm hoping to really notice the difference after today. Any words of encouragement or advice would be really appreciated, thanks x

It's normal to be a little apprehensive about your fist fill, after all, I'm sure you've read horror stories. But YOU won't have one! You will follow your doctor's instructions to a T because you didn't have major surgery to ruin it for yourself. About eating like normal during your vacation, GET OVER IT and don't beat yourself up about it. That's in the PASS... You will do great!

When they have you drink Water right after your fill, do not leave that place if you have any little doubt that you might be too tight. And if you're REALLY worried, tell them to be really conservative with the fills and to go slowly. Have a great day!!

Let me be Danny Downer here? I didn't feel any restriction till my 3rd fill. The 1st and 2nd fill did nothing and I could still eat a lot of food and I was hungry often. However, I did try to eat healthy and didn't gain any weight during that 4 month period. X my fingers for you that you get some kind of satiety from this fill but don't be surprised if you feel nada?

Thanks, I think I kinda knew that it wasn't going to be instant from what everyone else has said on other posts. I'm just hoping it does something! But now I'm back from my holidays I'm eating much better and a lot less so hopefully that'll help until the 'green zone' is achieved!!

My appointment is in an hours time so I'm getting super nervous now but can't wait!!

It went ok thanks. Very nervous going in there but i forgot to ask how much he put in to the band! It didn't hurt which was surprising!

I could feel when I drank the Water that there was a bit if constriction. He says if I don't feel after 10-15 days enough constriction he may see me again but if all ok, he will do another fill in about 6 weeks time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
