I realize that sometimes people are rude. I also realize many people will be mean to you after the surgery, due to jealousy, envy or plain old spite.

I work with a particular female who may quite possibly be off her rocker. Lets refer to her has L. I will walk by her office and say hey, things are fine. Later in the day I may say something about the fax machine and she will flip me off. Yes, very odd.

Today, another woman I work with (call her M) and I were talking about the rowing class we take together and how sore we were. L interjects herself into our conversation and said "Oh you have to drag Dondie to the rowing class." M said "No. She is highly motivated. She makes sure I go to class." L has a stupid smile on her face.

Two weeks ago, L walked up to me and said "You need to buy new clothes." She grabs my shirt and tugs, "these are too big." I looked her in the eye and said "I am losing weight and don't care to buy clothes until absolutely necessary." Her response? "Oh. Good point." She walked away.

I do my best to avoid L. Hard to do in a small office. I will purposely not speak to her. She will follow me. I try to avoid her, doesn't work.

It isn't like this person is young. Mid 40s. At her age, she should know better.

Before anyone asks, yes, she is overweight. She could stand to lose 50 or so pounds.

How do you guys deal with such behavior? I would love a snarky, pithy comeback.

I haven't dealt with any comments yet but I think you have already screwed her up with your success. I think you hit it on the head " envy, jealousy and spite" so short of telling her to shut up your loose clothes and rowing classes are speaking for you and she can't handle it. Keeping doing you!

I haven't had anyone talk to me like that but then most people in my office is afraid of me so they mostly say nice things and walk away!

Screw the pithy comebacks.

The bitch is abusing you in your lace of employment. Report her to your boss / management. The bitch has to stop abusing you.

Period.

I agree she's definitely not happy and your weight loss is making her miserable kill her with kindness....

Tell her, "You're right, I do need new clothes. These are just getting so big they're starting to fall off of me. I'd be happy to donate them to you. You're about a 24, right? They'll fit you great."

......to be said in front of a crowd of people in your office, in a loud, cheery voice........

Btw, what a total Bish she is. I can think of a million mean and spiteful things to do or say, but the truth is "L" is envious of you and too immature to face her own fears and insecurities, so she broadcasts those emotions and negative energy onto you.

You'll need to check her because her behavior is likely to continue and she is just waiting on the day that you crack, snap, or slip from your healthy lifestyle.

Sounds like she had issues. I work with several people like that. Just ignore her.

bring her a cupcake. Say, hey I've stop eating this crap. But thought you'd want it.

But seriously - you can go either way - kill her with kindesss (take away her "ammo" so to speak), or put her in her place with her boss or HR. Which ever you're most comfortable with. But you shouldn't be having to deal with it. Life is too short.

And congrats on your progress!

Some people you can't make happy & there is no sense getting down on her level. I love the comments about bringing her a cupcake & bringing your old clothes to her. Make sure you do that in front of people.

Let us all know what you do. I'm blessed in the fact I have had nothing but support but I'm retired so I don't have any office issues.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
