Walking 6 miles without tiring out.

Hiking for 5 hours.

More energy.

Better health..off of blood pressure meds.

Recently taking swimming lessons and swimming almost a mile so far Would like to do a triathalon ...one day. Making a vacation into a healthy one..i.e. eating healthy and hiking.....

and I'm over 60. !!!! You are never too old to change. If you want your life to change...you have to make changes to your life. Taking action is the key. I was very reluctant to have the gastric sleeve. I backed out several times. So happy that I had the surgery and made changes in my life.

I want to be able to ride properly again. Having horses and needing to ride almost everyday (that I'm home) having an extra 70 pounds on my body has thrown my balance out beyond comprehension. I have trouble walking out to catch them as I'm out of breath and in pain trying to climb the small hills where they graze, and I really want to be able to wear all the cute clothes available to girls of smaller sizes. I hate wearing my stretchy pants with boots and spurs. I also want to be able to get up on my horses without the aid of a mounting block, my arms just can't boost my butt up any more. So much to look forward to, A life of not hiding from the world I once knew and loved!

I'm with you on wanting to ride like I used to! I just don't feel as secure as I need to be. And wearing boots and breeches at 265 is not a pretty sight!

@I will what I want The green zone is the perfect lap band setting. It's different for all of us, and it may take multiple fills and tweaks. I'll get there some day, though! I think I may almost be there!

1. Playing PHYSICALLY for HOURS with my kids without being breathless

2. Being able to walk for some distance without being breathless

3. Being able to tie my shoes without being breathless

4. Not having to shop at Lane Bryant (loved that store, but I had no problems saying, "bye-bye."

5. Buying my first single digit size, size 8 (I cried and cried in the dressing room)

6. Kicking my husbands but at working out! He couldn't keep up (he's very fit) and he could only do half of my workout! And seeing the muscles in my legs from all the hard work I put into working out.

7. When my 2 & 4 year old girls did not know who the "chubby lady" is in the picture was (sad/happy moment because I will never allow myself to get that way again)

8. Being called skinny

9. Having confidence and feeling beautiful for the first time in over a decade

10. The day I didn't recognize my own reflection in a shop window and finally accepting the fact that I'm no longer fat.

Thanks for this. Love the stories. Love my sleeve.

I am just so happy I got my life back.

In HS I played football, ran track. Then went into the service and survived 2 tours in vietnam....came out, went to college, got married, then middle age set in and I grew lazier and lazier, and fatter and fatter...to the point then my health started to suffer in a big way.

I was tired of being a disgusting fat, lazy, unhealthy person.Saying that I had a very low self image....

I had/have no will power, self discipline to diet and loose weight on my own. If I could, believe me I would have.

So, as a last resort, I underwent lapband surgery. Did for me what I could not do on my own. EASIEST thing I could have ever done, wished I had done it 20 years sooner..

I am just so pleased and thrilled I am now at normal weight, wear normal size clothes, have my health back, have a high energy level to do just about anything I want to....have a high self esteem, and a high self image....

And most importantly of all...I will NEVER have to worry about diets and loosing weight ever again!!!

As long as the band is there, properly adjusted, doing the work for me in the background 24/7....

I'm 62 years old, and I feel like I'm in my 30's!!!

My family and I traveled to the Black Hills in South Dakota for the Independence Day Holiday. We climbed to the top of Harney' s Peak (highest peak east of the Rocky Mountains!).

I have lost of 205 pounds. At 331 pounds I would have stayed behind and read a book while my husband and son enjoyed the day and the amazing views. It was such a magical day being able to experience that with my family. I had celebrated my one year surgerversary - I can't express just how life affirming that experience was for me!

I'm almost 13 weeks out and down 75 lbs...and my big accomplishments so far are: doing my first 5k this past weekend (the Color Run, which we actually walked, but we still did it!) The goal for next summer in addition to the Color Run, is the Run for Your Life, Beast on the Bay (a 10-mile obstacle course) and hopefully a triathlon.

More personally, taking steps for surgery gave me the self-confidence necessary to go back to college...which is long overdue. And the big one: I'm able to shop for regular clothes now. I don't have to go into the plus section any more! I was so very excited to be able to buy an XL in regular activewear at Sears...I desperately needed some new workout clothes since my old ones are falling down :D I was so freaking happy about that!

what am i most proud off.. reading this post and listing to you all many things popped through my head - mostly i'm proud of me for taking control of my life back. as i gained the weight i found every reason under the sun not to visit my family. and turned down amazing opportunities to travel with work. mostly it was because it required getting on a plane. and getting on a plane meant i had to suffer with the seat belt.. of hiding the fact it wasn't closed - since my surgery i have been to San Diego, San Francisco, Durango, Boston, New York, Tel Aviv.. but most importantly i have a flight scheduled for sep for Dublin to go home and visit my Family.

This is what i'm proud of that i feel comfortable with how i look - i'm not even close to my ideal weight but i'm not that girl i was almost a year ago either. :P

oh and i guess i'm proud of my new clothes my 16yr old shared she was so glad i didn't dress like i was her grandmother any more but rather more like her MUCH older big sister/young mom..

got to love those kids for the words of truth they don't mind sharing...

I'm most proud that now I match my husband.. He is a great looking fit body builder.. We have been married very happily 23 years and he loved me completely at 305 pounds and never once said anything but that I was beautiful and sexy. Now I feel like I match those words.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
