Unable to get fill - Port disconnected

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, I have had my band for 6 years now, finally went in for a fill b/c I noticed weight gain and very little restriction. When I finally decided to get a fill, under the x-ray they saw that the port and tube was disconnected. Next step is an Endoscopy to see what needs to determine exactly what is going on and what needs to be done. Ok so here I am at this point. 1) I have to finance as my insurance deductible is extremely high so I have to pay OOP. which will have to wait because of the $$$$'s 2) Second I am so nervous about having surgery again as my options are a port replacement or a new band if needed. I'm really concerned and could use some support, please and thank you. Has anyone had a disconnect?

I've seen a few disconnects over the years. Do you know if the disconnect is at the port site or band site?

Thanks 2muchfun for responding. We are not 100% certain, the Doc believes it is a disconnect at the port, however, would have to complete an endoscopy to confirm.

I didn't have a disconnect but I recently had to have my port and tubing replaced because there was a leak in the tubing. Surgery was no big deal. In and out in a few hours. didn't even put me all the way out. Thankfully my insurance covered it. I hope all goes well for you!

Thank you,2babutterfly: I appreciate your feed back. Wow, you were not put all the way under, how did they manage that? :( You are definitely brave...lol

Thanks again, I will keep folks posted whenever, I can get the endoscopy done to see what else is needed. Take care

They gave me propofol (spelling?) it was strange. I was asleep through most of it but would wake up a bit here and there. I hope things go well for you. Has anything been done?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
