Thoughts on Honeymoon

Recommended Posts

I'm getting married in December, and one main reason I wanted this surgery is so I can walk again without hurting. Flashback to 3 years ago, before I got back injections, I was literally crippled.. I couldn't walk for more than 5 minutes without being in blinding pain. Me and my fiance met in Las Vegas.. We would go back every year around the same time (My birthday), stay at the same hotel (which is crappy, but it was memorable for us-) Sahara, and that was kind of our 'thing'. In 2005 we went, and I hurt so bad from walking, I made the trip miserable for us. Walking from our room down to the casino was unbearable, much less walking the strip to go anywhere (and we didn't include cab fair in our 'money to take', because it's Vegas and you're suppose to walk!!), at some point we had to walk through the Forum to get to the monorail or something, and that walk, I don't know how far it was, but I literally was sobbing and having to stop every few steps to lay down on the floor (yes, in the mall).. that was my first breaking point, when I found a doctor to give me injections to numb my back. The injections seem to work about 8 months for me, till I have to get new ones. The last one wore off in January 07, I had gained even MORE weight, so I was getting this surgery come hell or high Water. I was already getting info on getting the surgery, but planned back injections for March.. I got the injections and this time they didn't work. I'm not at the full blown pain as I was pre-back injections, but it's bad enough pain that I can't walk for long periods of time without hurting. I have a crooked spine, tilted hips, one leg shorter than the other due to this, all this excess weight, and 2 bulging disks. Everyone keeps saying most of this will correct itself when I lose weight and quit holding myself odd (I always shift my weight to my left side from the pain). So that was the long story. We're not 'go out and do things' people, we're happy hanging out at home, playing computer, watching tv. Playing in the yard with our dog, things like that. But we've started thinking about our honeymoon. My goal by then, is to have lost enough weight to walk for periods of time without dying of the pain. Since I haven't thought about doing a vacation that involves walking, I don't even know where to begin. He wants to do Vegas since I made him skip this year, it's where we met, yadda yadda. We could do shows and walk the strip, watch the night show in downtown.. and if my back isn't hurting, this sounds great! But I want some other ideas to think about to. Anyone got any fun ideas? My parents did an amusement park hop for their honeymoon (they were 18 when married), hit Six Flags, Disney World, and all the little places in between. I don't particularly love rides, so I don't really want to do that. It will be in Winter, so that has to come into consideration too. Any ideas? :nervous

December is a long time out and you will be so freaking HAWT.. I think a romantic all inclusive resort would be great or a cruise... but that is me.

If you are into wildlife or anything like that, the Everglades are great around that time of year. It's not as hot or as buggy as it is in the wet season. There are lots of trails and little things to do. Of course, Yellowstone would be good, too, but cold. If you are more the "be lazy on a beach" type, a trip to the Bahamas or Mexico would be good.

I was thinking about the Bahamas too. My parents are there right now! They go to Jimmy Buffet concert in Atlanta then fly off to Atlantis every summer. From what I hear that is terribly expensive though. I think they said 5k a person, which doesn't include anything, just flying and hotel.

I got married in Vegas in August. It was great! I'm still waiting on an official honeymoon though (no funding for what we have planned yet). We (well ok I and DH has agreed) want to go to Britain. I studied abroad there my sophomore year and he has never been so I need to show it to him. Wales is especially beautiful- thats where I lived. At some point we would also like to go to NYC-- there is a lot of stuff to do there. I hear they have good hot dogs for one thing, and shows and museums. He has spoken of DC before. We live in the midwest. I want to go to St. Louis for a weekend sometime-- their zoo is wonderful. I'd also like to check out the Pacific Northwest. I've never been to the Grand Canyon-- the previous times we've been to Vegas we never had time, but the mountains and stuff nearby are nice. Vegas is also pretty affordable compared to some other places. Sometime I want to go down to Mexico and visit the Mayan Riviera. Europe in general. I really like Europe. If only I could afford Europe. One of my dream vacations is to take the QE2 from new york to Britain and then do an extended european tour. I'd also like to take a mediterranean cruise. I love greek food.

I know what you mean about not being able to walk. I hurt my hip in June in a car accident (well two car accidents). SI joint injury. I could barely walk at all afterward. It took a long time to get better. And I walk funny too because I have really high arches and stuff so I walk on the edges of my feet cause if I walk completely on the bottoms it hurts. But if I use the arch supports the podiatrist gave me it causes that old hip injury to act up again (plus an old knee injury). I also used to get regular injections to an entrapped nerve ending in my abdominal wall. And the injections would get closer and closer and closer together with darvocet (and then oxycodone) in between. Pain is a horrible thing. Then I started using the lidoderm patch it actually works on my abdominal pain and no more opiates for me! Though I am supposed to try a series of nerve blocks (more tedious than anything else). Its nice to be able to hope to be young again. Now I think that maybe, just maybe, I might have a young women's body by the time I am 30. Before I used to think that maybe I would I have the body of a 90 year old by the time I was 50.

How about a cruise. You can do one to the Bahamas or where ever. There's always good deals on Carnival but I'm sure you can find deals on any of the cruiselines.

There's entertainment, gym, sauna, massages, food included, and you can get a chance to go to multiple places.

How about a trip to somewhere in Europe? There are packages you can get, where you can travel through several countries and see the sights. It might be a little expensive, but it would be worth it, IMO.

I recommend the caribbean! I LOVE it there. If you can get past the whole swimsuit thing, you can have a great time. A friend and I went to St. Thomas one year. You can do as much or as little as you want. You could spend an entire week laying under an umbrella on the beach, just soaking it all in. When I was there, we did a driving tour of the island, we did an all-day snorkeling tour, which was awesome (and swimming shouldn't be too bad for your back, I think). We also did a little bit of shopping. We stayed at one of the smaller hotels but they have those big all-inclusive places too, where there's even more stuff to do.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
