Gaining slightly during a stall

Recommended Posts

Promised myself I would not freak out over a stall....and I'm honestly not. I just have a small concern that I'm curious about. In the past 3-4 days I have gained about 3 lbs....got down to 168 lbs on Monday and have inched up to 171 yesterday and today. Diet is a little different...have eaten minimal carbs (1/2 cup of Kashi Go Lean Cereal, a handful if grapes and, during a dinner party, snatched a couple of fries from a friends plate). Have also not worked out quite as much because of a new job. Even with these two things, I eat WAY less than before and don't think it could account for a 3 lb gain.

The other variable is I have been pretty lucky and my weightloss has been ahead of my Dr's schedule.

Are small gains pretty normal as your body is adjusting and changing or is this something I should be more concerned about?

Surgery date: 4/22/14

HW: 231

SW: 220

Low Weight: 168.4

CW: 171

Thanks for the insight!

It is normal to go up a few pounds here and there. You will lose them! There are several reasons we gain a little weight - Water retention, that special time of the month.

i wouldn't worry about a small gain it's normal for your weight to change by 2 to 4 in one day - depends on what you eat, weather, time of month if your female, if the moon rose in the north :) if some one ran in a circle.. LoL. I have a HORRIBLE habit of weighing myself daily. i need to stop but my weight will go up and down in a given week.by a lot. Water retention is my biggest one. a tiny bit of extra salt in my diet can mean an extra 3lbs.

I think as we get thinner and it becomes a little harder to lose, that we should expect fluctuations like that.

I didn't lose for 3 weeks, got my period and lost like crazy. Now I'm back to no losing. And sometimes it all has to do with the #2! If I don't go, no losing either. Lol.

I do let myself get miffed about it too, but I know I shouldn't.

You're doing great btw!

Is it hot/humid where you are? The heat makes me retain a little. When we hit a cooling spell the scale drops a little for me.

I am keeping a daily record of my weight because my band has slipped just a bit and my doctor has me on 2 weeks of liquids and than soft etc. she said I might gain some wt. so keep track. I did well on the 2 weeks of liquid and lost 6lbs. but now on the soft I have gone from215 to 222. this has gone on for a week. everyday it is a different wt. one day I weighed and was 222 went poop and went down to 221 lol. so Water, belly full, poop etc can change our wt. everyday. and since it is so hot all over the country I would imagine ppl are struggling keeping their wt. stable. watch your sodium intake for one day and drink lots of Water and see if your wt. doesn't come down. also parsley tea is a natural water pill. good luck

Go figure. It's exhausting to keep up with all of this. Being my own human guinnie pig, I have taken it down to an austere 600 calories, just barely getting my Protein in, carbs under 30, no salt...you know...all of that, and today on the scale I have gained 2 pounds overnight! I about cried. I certainly did not eat 7,000 excess calories, so it had to Water and/or poo, but I am not constipated at all. It's hard being my own hall monitor, but I volunteered for this. So, if you gained 3 pounds, you know you did not consume 12,500 excess calories. keep you head up and stay on your program.

there are ups and downs for most people I would think. You are so right with the numbers. We know we didn't overeat anywhere near a pound of calories (3500) yet it shows up.

Life is not fair. Personally I can keep calories low and work out and times the scale won't budge. I also checked out some new medication side effects. Of course weight gAin was listed. I was able to switch meds thankfully and my clothes are once again feeling looser (I am not a daily weigher). And just for added pounds.... Menopause does not help

Nonetheless. Here I am headed towards 8 years post surgery and happy to not "fight" hunger daily Life is easier at a more "normal" size for me. Good luck!!

Oh my gosh, sorry to hear that, hopefully it's not bad and maybe they can fix it quick , you have been doing so well I wander what could have caused your band to slip, good luck.

Find your balance. Keep track of what foods you eat. I know I've had to change my diet every so often, because your body will get used to certain calories and foods and stop burning fat. Change up your Protein intake. Maybe go vegetarian for a week with Protein shakes. Try eating your biggest meal at lunch. I just started doing this and the weight loss kicked back into gear. Try to drink more Water during the day. And most important to me was eating something small like a spoon full of Peanut Butter or a little cottage cheese 1/4 cup ect. before bed. It keeps your body in fat burning mode instead of storing mode.

I restarted a particular med for fibromyalgia with a known side effect of weight gain/water retention. Sure enough, after 6 days on med, I was up a full three pounds. two tenths down today. Accepting the possibility has kept me ok. I'll keep moving down.

my stats on this site are incorrect. I had rny not sleeve, April 15, 2014.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
