Appetite question.....still pre-op

Recommended Posts

Hello. I am scheduled for surgery on Aug 11th. I am ready....well, as ready as a totally nervous, anxious, scared, person can be :) I am missing food and I'm only on my 2 week pre-op. I really miss eating. The whole routine of it. The cooking, planning, eating. I have moments of "oh I wish I could have that" to moments of "i'd give you my first born for a bite of that" But, I'm sticking to the pre-op plan, I stay busy and avoid cooking shows and I turn when a commercial comes on that makes me dream of food. I got this.

My question. After surgery do you have an appetite for food? I few years ago I took Adepex diet pills....what I loved about them is that I didn't think about food. I would get hungry but nothing sounded good. I would eat a little just to avoid hunger pangs. I LOVED THAT! It was such a feeling of control but not having to fight myself for it. So, I was just wondering if there is a period after surgery where you really just don't have an appetite?

@@Bobby46 I am 3 weeks out and I think about food all the time but IM NOT HUNGRY! I am on soft foods now and I'm only able to eat a little bit. Trust me, your tummy is going to fill up so fast, you won't miss not being able to eat certain things! Hang in there....it gets better!

The first 2 weeks I could have cared less about food. I was on liquid diet at that point. After I was on soft foods my thoughts of regular food started popping up. But, I was faithful to my diet because I didn't want to ruin all the work I had put into this procedure. I was on regular food at 6 weeks & I eat most things but in very tiny amounts. My taste buds changed so I haven't had much in the way of cravings. I had a craving for Chinese sweet & sour so I ate about 1/2 cup. I didn't enjoy it. My taste buds revolted. Won't do that again. What I have craved is salty foods. Even that's starting to go away.

Yes, I still get hungry at three weeks out but to this point it has not been a ravenous type of hunger where I want to scarf down any and all food in sight like before surgery.

I'm eight months out and rarely get hungry and don't obsess about food anymore. I took Fen/Phen back in the day (Adipex is a brand of Phentermine) and it's the same as I felt with those.

I had no appetite and eating/drinking was a huge chore for about 3 months postop. Between 3 and 4 months I started feeling normal again, got my appetite back and really started to enjoy food again. I eat when I'm hungry, every 3 hours or so, and I eat pretty much whatever I want. It's just what I want now is a lot healthier than what I wanted before. And I'm happy eating a lot less of it.

I just started on soft foods. Surgery date 7/16. There are days where I can barely eat and then there are days that I am so hungry. I believe that if you feel hunger you may be short on Protein or Water, so I have been paying close attention to that. Also, keeping busy really helps take your mind off food,

Good luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
