Is Lap Band a Cake Walk To Losing Weight?

Recommended Posts

@NewMeDebbie: Just checking in on you to see how you are doing now. I empathize with you...I'm coming up on my two year bandiversary with a net loss of zero over the past 12 months. I don't understand from a physical point of view why the band really helped me help myself for the first year and then, once a couple of complications set in, it is like it isn't even there anymore. I'm seeing a lot of us 2013 bandsters experience this at this point post op. I lost most of my weight at a restriction level lower than my current one. With my current level of restriction, I have no diminished effect on my appetite at all, even when sticking to my band diet. I eat my Breakfast at 8am and am starving by 10am. That should not be happening!

Let us know if you've found your mojo/restriction/energy...

I haven't written anything because I haven't had anything to write about. My weight has remained the same for the past 8 months or so. My band is about as full I think as it can get. I think our real problem is not with the restriction in the band but mentally! We have gotten lazy, I do not exercise any longer. My husband had his thyroid surgery last year and then I got very sick with pnuemonia for a couple months and I am still struggling with my asthma so I have been using that as an excuse to not walk. However, Mentally, I have also quite following a lot of the rules as far as focusing on Protein because I get frustrated that I can't eat without losing my Cookies most times. Also, I can still eat the peanut m&ms and ice cream I crave.

Not sure the band was a good choice for me, I need more structure and sugar to make me sick! lol

Hi there! I'm new to this site, but my 3 year Bandiversary is February 28, 2015.

After my first year, I was doing very well. The 3 year goal my surgeon set was 180 pounds. After year 1, I was at 172! Imagine the excitement! I felt amazing, I was getting compliments from friends, family, strangers!!

However, my husband of 15 years wasn't taking to all the compliments, or the looks from others so well. We ended up seperating for close to a year. It was the most awful year of my life! I ended up giving back everything I put in my mouth, and having the band emptied until the stress level went down a bit. We have 3 daughters, we own a house, and we live 3000 miles away from my family. His family is here...not helpful!! He was giving me support money to help support the kids and I was still working 4 jobs (1 full time, 3 part time) to try and keeps he girls lives somewhat normal. There was nothing normal about that year! My weight....195 after that year! Disappointed to say the least!

My husband and I are now back together after that rough year. I had my band refilled. My last fill was several months ago. Here goes my excuses!! It's cold out there!! I'm not snacking, I eat a lot of Protein and I am careful to make healthy meals. However, I'm getting in NO exercise! I absolutely HATE the cold! I even have a gym membership, but I don't want to go outside to get there (I have Rheumatory and Psariatic Arthritis that I was just diagnosed with and I'm not yet in treatment). Cold=Pain. I thought perhaps it was all in my head, but I just got back from Arizona where I had hardly any pain at all. While I was there for 4 weeks, I lost 5 pounds. I'm now at 190. I took my daughter out to the parks and lakes and walked everyday. Not to get the exercise, but just to get out and enjoy being outside. I've been home for a week...and nothing! I know it's the exercising that I need to add in to get to my goal of 150...

So, NewMeDebbie...I'll make you a deal. You stop snacking and I'll venture out into the cold to get to the gym...DEAL?? I need to get to 180 soon!!

My3Girls...It's a deal!! I have started a 30-day diet program to help me get control of what I eat again and (not to rub it in) because the weather here has been in the record highs, I am starting my walking again. I am still at the same weight I have been for the past 8 months. Keep going up and down about 5 lbs between 230 and 235... But with spring coming, I feel a new energy, so I am hoping this 30-day program will kick start me back on track!

and...I have started drinking more Water again. I have noticed my caffeine addiction is starting to get the better of me again...so it's time to take a step back with that too...

My 1st wedding anniversary is March 1st and I would like to drop at least 10 lbs by then so that's my goal!

Thanks for helping me with the motivation! Let's commit to get on here at least once a week to keep up on each other's progress?

And any others out there that would like to commit to something for 30 days...come join the fun!!

Ok NewMeDebbie, I'm starting a reset today. Clear fluids only today, soupy fluids tomorrow, mushies for 3 days, then normal foods. Once I'm eating again, I'll be hitting the gym! I'm also have a very small fill scheduled for Thursday. Here's so our success...TOGETHER!!

Well, My3Girls, it's been close to 2 months and I lost back the 10 lbs I had gained over the past 8 months but I am still at the same weight. I can't seem to motivate myself to walk everyday and I recently found out I have arthritis in my knees now. Great!

How are you doing, better than me I hope!

Everyone else, please let us hear from you. I need some encouraging words. I just don't know that my band is doing it's part and I know I'm not really doing mine. How do I get myself back into that mindset I was in when I first had the band?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
