How much Protein should I be getting post op? I am 8 weeks out, completely slipped my mind. And how do I measure sliced deli meats such as turkey and chicken? Do I need to get a scale and weigh them or is a few slices (2-4 thin slices) enough or too much?

TIA

Hi friend! You want to be getting in at least 60-80 grams of Protein a day. Protein is something that our bodies can not make and do not hold on to. So you must consume it every single day. It should be the first thing you eat as you plate your food. Salads, and fruits and vegies should be secondary to your protein intake.

Slices of deli meats, while they are yummy...are not the best choices of protein. They are usually high in sodium and other by products. Here is a link for nutrition information on deli meats including the protein content and amount per serving.

Hope this helps :):D

The amount of Protein you need per day is something your NUT and/or doctor would decide for you. It's based on your height and weight (and probably sex, too). My goal is 60 grams a day. I haven't heard of anybody with a number lower than that. I'm only 5'4".

Do you have any brochures or booklets or paperwork from surgery? Could you just call your NUT or doctor and ask them? I've seen a lot of people on the boards who have much higher goals.

Congrats on being banded.I would call your doctor to confirm. My daily goal is 60-80. I shoot for 80 per day and have no problems. lunch meat

that is lean is OK with my Dr. Typically 5-6 thin slices is 2oz.I would invest in a food scale, it is really an important tool.

Congrats on being banded. I was told by my Dr. to eat 60-80 grams of protien a day. When it comes to deli meat my band does not like it. It hurts really bad and I do not know why. It is the only food that hurts to eat so far.

I love my food scale and use it on a regular basis. This might be something you might want to invest in. Good luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
