Newbie introduction

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Sheri. i originally joined BariatricPal in 2007 before Lap Band surgery in Mexico (Nov. 2007, Dr. Acevez) but I didn't really get involved with the forum here, opting instead for a yahoo forum. I did lose quite a bit of weight with the band but I got way too tight and my fill nurses quit their services during that time and my husband lost his job, making a visit to a band doctor at $350 per fill impossible. So, I proceeded to eat around my band for the next 3 years and managed to stretch my pouch but good. I am now looking into revision surgery (Steven Hunter, Virginia Mason, Federal Way, WA) and I am trying to get my head in the game this time. I did learn a lot from my banding experience and I am hoping to learn even more before starting this journey. I would like some suggestions on reading ,material (head hunger, etc) and I am looking to connect with others no matter where you are in your journey. We're all in this together, right? :)

I'm also seeing more spam lately. It's frustrating.

But a book that had been great for me is the "big book of gastric bypass" it's written by Alex Beecher (I believe) he's the one who runs the site. It has helped with so many questions that I have had. Also never be afraid to ask questions here, I've gotten so much support from everyone here it's amazing.

Good luck on your journey

Thanks, everyone! I am happy to have a place to go for answers and to share stories, etc. I think I am more nervous this time than I was before the band. Now I know I can totally screw it up if I want to and I want to be much more prepared this time. I was already leaning toward The Big Book on Gastric Bypass and now I know it is the one I should pick up first!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
