I wonder .. Is it too late to switch from bypass to sleeve a week before surgery ??????

It is only too late after the surgery, call your Doctor and talk to him about it.

Unless you are self pay, it's not up to you. Unfortunately your medical options are in the hands of your insurance company. I'd call both your doctor and insurance company ASAP.

If you're not comfortable with your decision, I'd call your surgeons office ASAP and talk with them. Worst case, it may delay your surgery if they have to wait for a change with your insurance, but better that then to be unhappy with your currently scheduled procedure.

I'm certain with my desicion to have RNY.. I just wanted to know. I want no more delays lol my surgery was already rescheduled no more set backs I'm ready baby lol

I pray you weigh your options for both the pros and the cons, but if you can based on happiness and experience that I have read and now 40 lbs down in 3 months, no hair loss, eat many not all but many of my favorite foods just a couple bites, but I can eat it, and I feel healthy and eat like a skinny girl. That excites me. Read the pros and cons from everyone, but the "Sleeve Is The Bomb" Baby.

I heard you don't absorb the nutrients.. But I have a close friend who had the sleeve done in December and has lost no significat amount of weight.. Not everyone is the same though.. I'm worried of losing my hair, but it's vanity. Something that with treatment will grow back and my hair grows back fast. Thank god but Monday I'll call and find out with certainty my approval from my insurance takes a day.

I've seen a lot of recommendations to take Biotin to help prevent or reduce Hair loss (I've been taking it since a few days post-surgery after reading about that) Haven't had any loss so far, but only 9 weeks out, so it may be waiting to take me by surprise.

Lol, positive thoughts.. I take so much care of my hair ugh it's going to destroy me when I get Hair loss. I'm going to rack up on Dominican Shampoo and conditioner, Biotin. I also her putting monistat in your shampoo and conditioner makes your hair grow so I'll do that too. I'll do anything lol

The hair loss thing is a real crap shoot. I am one of the lucky few that at 7 months I have not had any noticeable Hair loss. It feels thinner, but I never had any strands in the shower or clumps fall off....just a few strays around the house. I I got a fresh haircut recently and my hairdresser said that my hair looked healthy to her (I am 62). The ironic thing is, I do not know what I did any differently than anyone else.

Granted, my Protein was elevated from 60 (1st month) to 70 (second month) then 80 (third month and forever). I am taken the Biotin, too, but 20,000 milligrams a day. Some tablets only have 325, but I found a 10,000 milligram at Walgreens and take two every day. If that's the clencher or just expensive pee, I don't know. Also, I have never heard this mentioned, but I do admit to eating way more red meat than chicken. just guessing, folks, could it be the Iron in the red meat? ??? Who knows.

I was prepared for the hair loss however, and had bought some bandannas, girly baseball caps, and even a sleep cap. For those of you who have not reached the hair loss stage yet, I wish you the best. All you can do is take your Vitamins and supplements, follow your teams plan, and get in all the sleep and Protein you can. You need it anyway to keep up your strength and prevent muscle loss.

I agree with Miss Mac. I think the hair loss thing is a crap shoot. I have very fine, slow growing hair and any loss would be noticeable and take a long time to recover from. I was seriously prepared to shave my head and wear hats. But at 7 months out I have had NO hairloss. And I really didn't do anything to prevent it. I take the same whole food based Multivitamin and D3 and Iron like I always have. I did add sublingual B12 and Calcium after surgery but have never taken extra Biotin or used special shampoos. My 6 month bloodwork showed high Iron and Calcium, though, so I've cut back on those.

I think nutrition plays a stronger role in hairloss/no hairloss than topical treatments. With the exception of a few days early on, I've always gotten 60g (and usually a lot more) of Protein everyday. My whole food based Vitamins have a lot of micronutrients and cofactors that chemically synthesized Vitamins don't have. How you handle the physical, mental and emotional stress of surgery probably plays a role, too. We see complete hairloss in dogs and cats sometimes after a traumatic or stressful event. Even with having additional health issues 2 months out, I never really let myself stress over what my body was going through. I just stayed positive, found ways to deal with whatever was happening and enjoyed the journey.

Ironically, the more you stress over hairloss, the more likely it is to happen. So relax! Enjoy your new life and if it happens, it's just temporary and well worth all the good stuff that's coming.

Oh, yeah, And I eat lots of red meat, too. More red meat than chicken and fish combined.

      Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

        I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
