Struggling with solid protein

Recommended Posts

I am 5 1/2 weeks post sleeve and everyday it is beyond tough to get in solid Protein at all. Nothing smells good, nothing tastes good, the thought of food turns my stomach aka sleeve, can't get in more than 1 1/2 ounces then feel full for hours please tell me this will pass. I am light headed and dizzy I think due to jot enough caloric intake.

It will pass, I promise. It was months before I could tolerate solid Protein.

I did okay with it if I put it through the food processor first. Or if it was ground up like hamburger, but solid chunks of chicken, beef, and pork were really tough. I was eating primarily Cream of Mushroom Soup for about 2 months, then switched over to ground chicken/turkey mixed in with refried Beans - and that lasted till around month 8 or 9. By then, I could eat solid pieces of meat, but I was in the habit of eating a mix of refried Beans and ground Protein.< /p>

The really tough part for me was not being able to eat all the "healthy" vegetables and fruits. It was 6 or 8 months post-op before I could eat more than a bite or two of salad, broccoli, cauliflower, apple, grapes, pineapple... pretty much anything that had Fiber in it. :(

Yes this will pass, take your Vitamins & keep pureeing. I was nauseous for months but it turned out to be a good tool to lose the weight fast. You have probably been told at a certain point you quit losing weight, could be 6 months, 9 months, 1 year. BELIEVE THEM. At 10 months boom it was over. Fortunately I lost 120 lbs, I am trying to lose 5 lbs now & it is crazy hard.

Sounds silly but I was worried that I was / would starve. Your responses are comforting! Thank you :)

Just go back to eating the kinds of Protein you can eat. I transitioned through my food stages slower than what my "schedule" said. Just because the piece of paper said I could eat mushies at 3 weeks and solid food at 6 weeks doesn't mean my sleeve agreed to that. Take it as slow as you need to, but still shoot for all your fluids and protein in whatever form you can tolerate. It was 3-4 months before eating stopped being a chore and became enjoyable to me again.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
