Recommended Posts

Hey everybody!

Hope everyone is doing AWESOME!!

Let's brag/celebrate:

Show me your muscles!!!

I don't care where you are in your weight loss, I want to see you flex!

(Guys & girls) - arms, legs, back, whatever.

I just recently starting lifting more. I was a little discouraged at first because I had lost so much strength while losing weight. But now I'm starting to see progress, and I'm super excited!!

:)

@@Mrs.RRn how long did you wait to start strength training? I am 7 weeks out tomorrow & I'm worried that my muscles are, like, atrophying as we speak...I've been doing cardio only.

Too long. I did atrophy. All I did at first was lots of cardio & light weights (5-15 lbs) and some body-weight exercises. I felt like I was doing so well, it didn't even occur to me that I was getting so weak. I started lifting heavier just shy of 1 year (maybe between 10-12 months?). I'd def suggest if it's your goal to lift, start maybe 3 months or so out-- once you've begun eating consistently and getting enough Protein & calories (whatever your numbers may be).

lol - you can't really see mine (it looks like I still have pretty big arms) unless you poke my arm - and the fat doesn't give!!! lol.

I'm lopsided right now due to dislocating my shoulder, I lost over an inch in my right arm. Getting back to being able to do all the fun stuff, however.

Saw my doctor Tuesday for my 4 week follow up and he told me I'm cleared to start lifting again as long as it feels ok. I had done a lot just before surgery and I'm ready to get back into it. I was worried that he would make me wait longer because I had a pretty big hernia but he said, nope... go ahead.

Now just to get over to the gym to set up those personal training appointments again!

Been doing treadmill and walking since about 3 weeks -- had pneumonia just after getting out of the hospital and that put me a week or more behind in recovery.

@Pookeyism- glad you're doing better & getting to the fun stuff!! ;)

@@Ginger Snaps- having a personal trainer to remind me of proper form was so helpful! Plus, I was a little intimidated getting back to the gym. I feel so comfortable now!

I started lifting as soon as my six week clearance was over with. Sometimes I think that building muscle might be slowing the downward trajectory of my weight loss, but I would rather be stronger and have more muscle definition than be thinner but flabbier. In the end I know that that is only temporary as muscle burns more calories and since I am not overeating the weight will come off in fits and spurts as it is wont to do.

@@Forsythia it's awesome that you started so early! It'll be well worth it (even though you can see changes as well on the scale- you will see it on your body!)

You look great!! Congrats!

I'm about to shift focus at the gym and will try to go higher intensity. Despite starting with resistance training as soon as I was cleared and despite working with a PT for the past 4 months, I don't feel much stronger, and my muscles haven't responded how I'd like them to. My take away is really that the muscle loss would have been sooo much worse if I hadn't gotten in a routine so early. I have more definition, but I think that's just from the weightloss, exposing my muscles better. Not brave enough for a bicep flex pic yet. Too much sag. ><

I like your fleur de lis containers ;) . Louisiana girl here too. Lol.

@@Ava324 don't worry girl, lots of sag here too (the pic is just at a good angle) lol. I had to go higher weight / lower reps to start seeing the results I wanted. My pt originally had me doing 50 reps of low weight... I realized quickly this wouldn't get me the results I wanted.

Love my fleur de lis! LOL

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
