I went to Dr. DiCicco's office today to deliver the endoscope report. I was told there are 5 steps to go through before surgery. They gave me a script for a cardio clearance and a script for a bilateral scan of my legs. When those two reports are in, they will put me on a 2 week Protein liquid diet. Then, they will submit my medical records to my insurance. When that is approved, they will schedule the surgery. She showed me the pile of patients awaiting surgery. I was so disheartened. I thought it was going to be July, but I think I'll be lucky if it's September, 2014.

Just curious, are they putting you on the liquid diet and then taking you off until surgery? If not then maybe it's a good sign it's only a two week diet. Or do they expect you to stay on the diet for months until surgery?

Don't get disheartened, I know easier said than done, but you will have your surgery before you know it. I had to wait nearly a year before I got mine for various reasons. I finally had mine on June 9th and it all feels like a dream. Hang in there and good luck!

Waiting is the hardest thing to do imo. Like Beachgurl84 said they are putting you on the liquid diet so surely that is a positive sign :) I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
