How soon did you go back to work?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I was just wondering when anyone got clearance to go back to work? I stand pretty much all 8 hours of the workday, bend, lift 10-15 lbs occasionally. I see the doc next Monday, but was wondering if it's unrealistic to go back sooner. I'm 2 weeks postop and feel fabulous, just a little weak (still on Protein Shakes and liquids until next Monday). TIA for your answers.

I went back after 2 weeks. I probably could've gone back after one week but I had already arranged for 2 weeks off so I took it anyway.

You probably don't want to push it too hard if you have a job where you are on your feet for most of your shift. Your body is still healing. Enjoy your time off; focus on using that time to heal and to get into your new, healthy eating routine. Good luck! :)

I'm on week 7 post-op and I'm still on work leave till next week. I'm a patient care tech so I do some heavy lifting. Now what I'm doing is building up a bit of strength and energy. Dr./Nut added Vitamins to my diet, that's also supposed to help me with my energy levels.

Hi I went back to work to work after 2 weeks but I could have went back after 1 week, my husband insisted on me not going back until I had my first check up with my surgeon and primary. Good luck.

I also took two weeks but could've gone back after one. For the first couple weeks I had a 10lb lifting restriction, followed by 20lbs from two to four weeks. I work in a bank which my doc considers a 'light duty' job. Jobs that are more strenuous they recommend 4-6 weeks, depending on your recovery and how much weight is involved in 'lifting'.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
