Anyone have this insurance? If so how was your experience? I know they don't do the 6 month supervised diet, which I am thankful.

Thanks

I have BCBS NC. Check out this other topic we've been following because they apparently just changed the 6 month diet requirement (got rid of it).

Hi

I have BCBS-MA. They were very helpful and informative when I called to inquire about bariatric coverage and promptly emailed me the relative policy which I brought to my consult.

I was told at my consult that they are extremely easy to work with. They also base their approval on your starting weight. Unlike some insurance companies that go by your weight the day of surgery. This would be relevant if you are at a 35 BMI and just qualifying - you would then have to be careful not to dip below that. Not with BCBS-MA.

I've had lots of appointments/tests going through the program, and they've paid for everything (minus appropriate co-pays).

That's about all I've had to go through with them so far. :)

Amazon- thanks so much for the information. Are you from MA also? I have a BMI of 35 with sleep apnea so that makes me feel better.

Thanks so much! :)

JenSul - anytime :) The policy should state exactly what the requirements are. They may differ by employer. But I hope yours is a simple as mine - for BMI of 35-40 one comorbidity and NO supervised weightloss plan.

When I told the NP who I have for insurance, she said they're wicked easy to work with. Didn't expect any problems.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
