Pain in my right side going into my back

Recommended Posts

For several months I am having so much pain where my port is on my right side and going into my back. Sometimes it can take my breath away, I have trouble sleeping can't sleep on my right side. I can be at work and sitting in my chair and it hurts just to sit there at times. I have to sit straight up and almost stretch my stomach because it feels like it gets stuck or something. Sometimes I have as much pain on my left side as I do the right. I haven't went to the doctor because my husband's insurance changed and doesn't cover this type of doctors anymore. I don't know if I should go to a regular doctor or make an appointment with the surgeon who did it and see if the insurance would cover for medical issues?

Don't just assume this is related to your band. Sounds more like a gall bladder problem and any doctor or insurance will cover this. No need to be in pain, call your PCP and go in today?

@@hershey4 I would not assume it's anything to do with the WLS. Go and see your Primary doctor, they can run a few tests including an x-ray which will show the placement of your band and the port as well as be able to rule out any other issues that might be going on.

If it's a band/port issue then I would contact the Dr. that did the surgery, but go to the Dr. you are covered to see. Tell them you have pain and it's in your side and back and sometimes on both sides. I could be many many things, including something to do with your kidneys. ( I say this b/c the pain radiates to your back on both sides, but I am not a Dr.)

See your regular doctor and go from there, let us know how your doing and what your doc has to say.

Feel better!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
