How much could you eat when starting Soft Foods?

I am four weeks post-op and tomorrow I am cleared to start soft foods. I cheated and started a few hours early. For dinner tonight I made tuna salad with only tuna, mayo, and a bit of relish. It was pretty thin and wet.

I was only able to eat about 2 tbs. I have this very definite full feeling. I actually think I am going to lay down a digest for a few minutes. Wow...after only 2 tbs!

Is that amount of food about normal for this early stage of eating?

How long did you stay at that level of restriction?

That was about normal for me. I was able to eat a little more as time went on. I am 9 weeks and can eat half a chicken leg with a deviled egg and a couple of slices of a Tomato. That fills me up.

I was about 1/2 a cup. For example, two scrambled eggs. I also started squishy food on day 4.

I don't eat over 4 Tbsp, about a quarter cup, of Protein per meal. More than that and I am sick and really uncomfortable. I am just over 5 weeks out from surgery and can have anything but sticking to protein and shakes.< /p>

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
