Abdominal pain after bypass

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I’m new here and could desperately use some advice.

I had Roux-en-y gastric bypass on June 3rd and am having a bit of a hard time right now. I’m having some pretty significant discomfort in my upper abdomen and I’m unable to get and keep anything down including…well everything. I know there’s always the possibility of an ulcer but I have no idea what the symptoms are for this. Has anyone else had this type of problem?

I’m going to contact my doctor’s office tomorrow, on Monday, but have to admit to being a bit afraid of what this may mean.

I also think that since I can’t even keep liquids down that I may be a bit dehydrated.

Would be so appreciative of any advice anyone can give.

Thanks much

Go to the ER immediately to get fluids in you.

Call your surgeon now do not wait until tomorrow and I'm sure that that is what they will tell you to do.

Being in so much pain at this point is not good and not normal.

Please let us know what happens with you.

I second that. If you cannot keep stuff done for more than a few hours, it's time for lifesaving fluids. ((hugs))

Could be a stricture. I would call your doctor's office and see if you can reach an on call doctor covering the weekend. They should be able to advise you if it can wait until Monday or not. But you definitely don't want to get dehydrated. Hope you feel better!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
