August 18th date! Get me off this roller coaster!

Recommended Posts

I just got my date yesterday, August 18th for me!!! I am 45, 5'11" and 310 lbs. I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I have actually told several people, and had nothing but positive feedback so far, not that I was looking for any. The only people I am concerned about their opinion is my husband and my children. They are all supportive because the have seen my struggle first hand and have lived the yo-yo diets with me. I am so excited to get my life back. I have not been over weight my whole life, and I don't even know who I am anymore. For me it is like I will be getting a new start at life again. I can't erase the last 15 years, but I can make changes now so the next 30 are better. I made the decision to do this for my physical health of course, but for my mental health too. I am ready to get off of this circle race track that keeps going around and around in the same circle, 20 lbs off = 30 lbs on, 40 lbs off = 50 lbs back on. Like a roller coaster, lots of highs and lows, ups and downs, but the same circle over and over. No one knows the hell that goes on in your head when you feel like you can't even control your own body and the failure you feel every time you take 2 steps forward, to only fall 4 steps back. I am so luck to be married for 26 years to my best friend and one of the most supportive people I know. He has loved me through thin and thick, happy and depressed. I am not only doing this for me, but for him also. He deserves someone better then what I have been able to give him. Both our children moved out last year and we are empty nesters. Life has been so full of adventure so far, but my weight has definitely been a factor in holding us back in some of the things we can do. I can't wait to start this new adventure with him and see what kind of adventures we can do together.

Good for you! I've been on that roller coaster too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
