Hey all,

I'm nearly three months out, and I've been rather lucky - I think - with my port. I had pain the first few weeks, but now I can comfortably sleep on my left side, etc. However, every now and again, I feel sort of a 'click' in my port location. Not quite a click, but a 'feeing', sort of a pressure, or even a tug of my muscle. It's so hard to explain. In a way, it's my port reminding me 'Hey…I'm in here!'. By no means is it painful. Somedays I seem to feel it much more often, a few times a day. Sometimes I go days without feeling it.

Can anyone else relate?

Yes, I can relate. My port lets me know it is there. Like you said, not pain, but sometimes when i lay on my side, I can feel it. I think because i sleep on a mattress with springs. Even though it is a good mattress and only like 2 years old, I can feel it.

Yes - most of us can relate. It was about 6 months before I could sleep comfortably on the port side (and by then I adjusted to the other side!) and while most of the times I don't notice it at all...occassionally it will just 'hurt' like an achey feeling - sometimes if i overeat that's where I feel it - sometimes it feels like it is coming out of my belly and all sorts of things. It never seems to last so I just go with it.

As long as it goes away I think it is pretty normal - some people put a heating pad on it and you might try that but i think you are ok/can relax.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
