Bypass or Sleeve. Times running out

Recommended Posts

I chose the sleeve because its less invasive and less complications. I was severely overweight and the RNY was suggested but I didnt feel comfortable with that. So now I sm down 200 pounds but still more to go. This is where the tool is the tool and I gotta make good choices. Also I could still get the RNY if I didnt like these results but so far Im glad I sleeved. Good luck!!!

Holy smokes! Having a loss of 200lbs. is mind blowing! I imagine it is a whole lot easier to move around and live your life! Congratulations!

I chose sleeve and have done great. My buddy choose gastric and my dad had gastric (his was 20 years ago) and both are great. They eat what they want, I eat what I want. You will need Vitamins for the rest of your life in either case. Stats don't lie, gastric seems to give slightly higher loss of weight. My doc said both were good. There are pros and cons to both. Acid reflux and other problems in a persons hx might make you favor 1 procedure over the other but both work. I would think you have the choice of two things, both of which work. Talk it over with your doc then pic. You can't go wrong. Please don't choose base on what was right for others. Their medical situation might be very different than yours. Talk to your doc, that's my advice.

@@beachgurl84 I think sometimes docs take a singular approach to both surgeries, and don't always differentiate the uniqueness of the sleeve. My doc did tell us in the seminar that sleeve patients can take NSAIDS, steroids, etc because there is not an anastomosis (suture line from stomach to bowel), where ulcers are likely to occur. I've been taking ibuprofen for a year without difficulty. I'm not advising to go against their docs orders - just saying what mine said and what I do.

As for the reflux, I had that before surgery. I had been taking a PPI up until recently. I am pleasantly surprised that I have been able to get off of it! I was really worried I would need it forever, but I've been off about a month now, and no problems. Hope it stays that way!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
