For now just walk that's it as many times a day you can. It will help release gas and help you eliminate fluids built up from the IV.

Drinking your Water and clear fluids will help with eliminating those excess fluids too.

Don't start any working out until your surgeon gives you the okay. Your body needs time to heal and for you to get your strength back.

Feel good and remember to take it slowly.

My doctor was OK with me walking as much as I felt like I could starting right after surgery. It was hard for me because I also developed pneumonia and ended up back in the hospital. I was the one pushing the IV pole for laps around the floor. :)

My doctor just gave me clearance yesterday (4 weeks out) to start lifting again even though I had a pretty big hiatal hernia and I thought I'd have to wait longer.

It depends on your situation and your surgeon, but I think you definitely can walk now as much as you can tolerate. And the energy thing is perfectly normal... it took me about 2-1/2 weeks to feel like I wasn't made of lead! lol

I started the night of my surgery. The second they asked if I wanted to get up and walk, I was doing lap after lap around the nurses station, the waiting room, everywhere they'd let me go.

Once I got released, I started doing laps around the neighborhood. Started out small with just going around the block the first few tries that day, then increasing distance as the days progressed.

I didn't try the eliptical until after my JP drain was removed, as I was a little timid to snag it or cause myself some other issues, but got back on that as quick as I could.

I wasn't cleared to do any weightlifting until my 1 month post-op appointment, but they told me for cardio it was all up to my body.

How much walking were you able to do before surgery? Walking around the block for me is very tough because of shortness if breath. I have started Water exercises which seem a little easier on breathing and joints. I am still waiting for surgery not scheduled till Sept 9th.

I was suppose to have it in Sept but insurance changed criteria so now scheduled Oct. 7 two more weeks. Let me know how your surgery goes, as it gets closer I get a little more nervous. Did you need to do a preop liquids?

What about just walking on steps. I'm gonna have the op in around 5 weeks and im horrible with blight sun have had 5+ eye operations so everyday few times a day I use a step I have in the lounge room or a rowing machine to get exercise.

I agree with the above statements began with walking and wait until you are approved by your doctor because you do not want a set back or to pull anything, although you may feel better remember you just had major surgery and even if your incision sights may look completely heal your insides takes time to heal. I was only allowed to walk and it was not until my 6 week check up that I was clear to do additional exercise.

It took me a long time to start. I walked a little at first but not often because I was tried or it hurt. My surgery was March 3rd I really started hitting the gym in mid-may. I'm proud to say though I've been going 3-5 days a week since then though. It feels pretty great.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
