Panniculectomy TO DO IT OR NOT?

Recommended Posts

Just came from the PS again and he is ready to remove the skin 7/21 but I think I should wait til after summer. I still have more to lose then I go back for Tummy Tuck and thigh lift. I need a hernia repair and decided to remove the skin as well. Trying not to chicken out lol. Decisions decisions. Anybody had this? Another 30 lbs to go.

If it were strict cosmetics or that the skin was getting unmaneagable, I would agree not to try to heal in the heat of the summer (but I am in Houston). However, a hernia is kinda like a time bomb, so your doctor may have a very valid reason for getting that done now, and not being so worried about the 30 lbs left (which is a non issue if you know you are going back later, I would think)

However I am not a doctor. Ask you doctor how potentially urgent is the hernia. Go from there.

Yes they say the hernia is very large so I guess I will double check with my primary.

What does a hernia feel like? I'm having an odd pain that I've never had before (had surgery this past Jan. so should be all healed).

Also, best of luck on your surgery--can't wait to get to that point.

It is a pain near the belly button. The doctor told me what it was. Usually comes from straining. Tell your doctor to check it. Thanks for the well wishes

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
