WL During 2 Week Pre-Op

Recommended Posts

Hello!! I'm a newbie to the forum :) I'm currently going through the 3 months medically supervised dieting required by my insurance before they will approve my surgery. My BMI is currently 40.8, which means I have about a 8-10 pound window before my insurance won't cover the procedure. I do not have any obesity related diseases that drop the BMI criteria to 35 (diabetes, sleep apnea, etc.) My surgeon has recommended that I DO NOT lose any weight between now and the surgery. All good, but I'm concerned about the 2 weeks prior to the surgery. How much weight, on average, did everyone lose during those 2 weeks on the liquid diet??

My first 2 weeks were a high Protein, low carb, low fat food diet with a strict foot list. I lost 13 lbs. The next week was a "full" liquid diet and I lost another 7 lbs. I am on my final week of pre op diet and I am allowed "clear" liquids. So far I have dropped 1 lb in 3 days for a total of 21 lbs.

I haven't gotten surgery yet and I have the 3 month supervised diet as well. I know I only need to get through the 3 visits, then they will submit. Hopefully that's the case with you.

I did a 1000 cal/day pre-op diet. i started 3 days early to get the worst days over with on a weekend, and to also give me a little leeway in case I went over a little during the 2 weeks at client dinners and such. I lost about 15 pounds total in that period. I've only lost 3 pounds since my surgery just over a week ago though, and I see lots of people who lose 10 pounds or more in this time. Alas, overall, I'm happy with what I've lost this month!

Your surgeon will or should (most do), use your starting BMI regardless of the pre-op 2 week diet.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
