Hurting incision and ooze

Recommended Posts

Got sleeved on 14th June.. Weight 70 kgs and started liquids from 15th and today the 19th I weigh 75.9... It's amaZing. Finally seems to be worth all the trouble. Hope I keep losing like this. Also, since it's only been five days my incisions don't hurt except one where they took the stomach out from.. Gross.

Yesterday that cut was oozing pink stuff out I got scared and called my doc and he said chill this is normal just put some gauz and paper tape on it. I told my mom and she freaked out and she said no let's go show it to him now which we did and he cleaned it up and put a new band aid on it and told me to change the band aid after showering every time. This morning I see pink stuff again.. Did anyone experience this?

Apparently this doesn't happen to everyone, but we are "special". I oozed from one of the incision for about 10 days. The PA at the surgeon's office said to just kept it clean and covered until it stopped. So I did and then it did! Good luck!

When stuff starts oozing out of your incisions, it's understandable to be concerned! It sounds pretty much like the typical type of drainage you'd expect to see after surgery though. Did you have a drain or no? I had a drain in for 24 hours after surgery and that's pretty much what the Fluid that came out looked like. After it was removed, the site seeped for a few days afterwards. They sent me home with tape and gauze and everything turned out fine. It even healed nicely. As long as the edges of your incisions stay together and the drainage isn't discolored (like green/yellow) or smelly, it's probably ok. Just follow your surgeon's advice!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
